DK2 camera doesn't light up / doesn't work

Hi everyone,

Just got my DK2 today!

Tuscany and Desk Demo works. However, there is no positional tracking.
The camera is found in the config utility.

When I plug the camera in, the blue light flashes once, then goes away. The light never comes back on again.

Any tips? Thanks!

I have the exact same problem. However mine worked perfectly for the first hour. Then just stopped.

I've tried resetting, restarting, re-installing - nothing I try is bringing it back so far.

It's serial is detected in the config utility but when you click "Show Demo Scene" - no positional tracking (i.e. no blue light on the camera).

    Is it faulty hardware?

Have you tried switching USB ports for the camera? I assume you have the sync cable plugged in?

What OS are you on? Can you post a DxDiag log?

Mine started working again - I can't be sure but I think removing and then plugging in my wireless keyboard dongle (Logitech K800) fixed it for me.

I know we aren't supposed to use Logitech stuff but it's all I got + it was working!

Yep, the sync cable is plugged in. I've tried multiple ports.

Edit: After restarting the oculus rift a few times, the blue light on the camera now comes on. The blue light on the oculus rift also comes on. It works on the desk demo. I took the mirror cap off of the camera (I hope it's supposed to be off)

However, the Tuscany demo still doesn't work for the tracking. (When I push spacebar, POS stays the same, never changes)

The camera doesn't work for me either.

I tried all usb ports, until one was able to detect the drivers correctly, but the camera is not showing up in the config utility (waiting for camera)

I tried reinstalling the runtime, and not surprisingly it's telling me that the positional tracker x64 driver failed.

    Not impressed.

I think this has something to do with the Camera wanting to pulling too much power or the camera and the rift combined. I am thinking this could be resolved with a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UB1S47266 and a USB wall adapter.

How come a simple IR webcam would need more than 500mA to work ?

No idea. No idea on the power requirements of the devices as well. If I find a USB extension cable somewhere in my box-of-cables, I will test out the y-adapter.

The hub tells me it's 100mA
The driver does not correctly install. When I plug the camera it tells me it's not installing correctly.. If I plug the camera back in it's detected in device manager and the device is there as well in devices and printers (windows7). The camera is still not detected in the config utility and I see the blue light flashing once when plugging it in.

I tried usb3 ports and usb2 ports. The head tracking of the hmd work tho.

It's pissing me off, how come this cheap ass camera cannot get detected?

After fighting for hours on 4 different PCs, got mine to work at least to enjoy the increased resolution simply by unpluging the camera.

I *DO* have serious issues with the camera as well. In my configuration utility, it keeps cycling from "not connected to service", "Model/sensor" found, then camera serial (waiting for camera) when it finds it it resets to "nothing found" i.e. as in nothing, not even the headset, then it finds the headset again, searches for the camera, find it, resets... and so on... at some point it stops cycling and seems okay, I run the demo scene, blam, resets again. I've got this issue going on several machines. All x64, one win 8.1 another windows 7.

I tried using another USB cable in case there could be an issue with the longer (included) cable or my port, tried a dual USB (for external drive, uses 2 USB ports, one data+current, + another one for current) doesn't change anything in the behavior..

I wasn't expecting frustrations but a smoother experience given the initial DK1 experience that was simply perfect....not giving up though, on the positive side, I did manage to enjoy the increased resolution...I think we need a 4K display crammed in this box to get rid of the pixels though. Latency (or lack of) is amazing.

If anyone fought with the camera issue and has a solution, I'm sure it will help a lot of people.

    *Edit*
I did try with everything in the usb ports (other than the DK2) unpluged.

I didn't expect to be that pissed off either..
I'm procmon'ing the shitty driver installation process but I don't see the problem.

    I FIXED IT!

    It's partially my fault!

Windows Update Service was turned off (For whatever reason, I don't remember why) and when the driver installs it tries to launch windows update because the KMDF driver framework needs it..

Honestly, with positional tracking, it's FUCKING awesome!

Glad you got around it :)

In my case I can't get it to not cycle, something is either wrong with the hardware, or I'm very unlucky.

I've stopped fighting for tonight, I will try again with a clean system later....

Btw, I also use a powered USB hub, it seems to help. And the camera crashes (turns off) after running a demo.

I still don't understand why their service runs with a vbs script, why not using a standard windows service?

Actually I've found something really interresting trying to reproduce the problem...

When the HMD is not in the line of sight of the camera, it stays on.... I can even start the demo and move my head around... as soon as the camera "sees" the HMD, it stops and cycles like crazy.

I guess if nobody replies tonight I'll throw a note to support,

    Cheers

I have been unable to get the positional camera to work on my windows 7 system:

    jvZA6jA.png

    xmUOu90.png

    73Q9ZIV.png

    Things I tried:
    Different USB ports (USB2 & USB3)
    Uninstalling my Logitech wireless keyboard
Enabling & Disabling camera in device manager
    Uninstalling & Reinstalling drivers
    Uninstalling & Reinstalling DK2 runtime

Nothing works. When I plug in USB the blue light blinks for a microsecond but that is all I can get out of it..

Take a look in the event viewer.. If it say's cannot run service or something like that it is your windows update service .

I'm having this exact same problem. Thought I was the only one. I had to bury the camera off in a corner, turned away from me, so I could get anything running. As soon as I turn it back towards me, within 5 seconds both the Rift + camera turn off and then turn back on again endlessly.

I'm currently having the same issue with the camera. It failed to install correctly and is currently listed as an Unknown Device and in the Oculus Config Util it says (Waiting for camera). I've unplugged all other USB devices so the only devices currently plugged in are my mouse, keyboard and the Rift.

The HMD itself was cycling on and off before, but it at least stopped doing that. Is there anywhere I can find the camera drivers so I can force a manual install?

I personally have to go in device manager, uninstall the camera and rescan hardware when the camera decides to die after a demo.. (that's better than restarting the pc)

has anyone had the problem where head and positoinal tracking both work fine with the calibration tool but neither work in any demos or games?

It's like black magic. I set the Rift display mode to extended and suddenly the camera drivers started installing and succeeded. It works now. If extended mode bypasses the Oculus service, I'm thinking there's something bugged in said service?

Direct mode also produces a crazy amount of judder.

Lol, something bugged?? I think the whole thing is a bug! I thought that having 30 top level engineers working for oculus would show up as quality software dev, I was wrong.

Well, engineers can't foresee every issue. Kind of why we're testing this thing, so this doesn't happen when the consumer version comes out, right? :)

Sure is a frustrating issue though.

Yes and no, some things just shouldn't happen.. I mean, it's as if I was in 1998 trying to use a PNP device and it kept crashing.. It should be issue free and I should be working on developping, not on fixing issues that should not pass QA.

BUT, when it works it's pretty nice for sure, although the FOV is deceiving.

    I am also experiencing this.

I have the Rift itself more or less working (in extended mode at least). The runtime is running.

When I plug in the camera I get a generic USB device not installed message.

In device manager I can see the camera listed with an error stating something akin to "USB Configuration Descriptor Not Found".

I have tried a variety of different ports, both USB 2.0 and 3.0. I've reinstalled the runtime several times.

I removed all other USB devices other than mouse and keyboard.

Initially I had Nod Eset 32 (anti-virus software) running. The camera's driver supplier was listed as Nod Eset, so I uninstalled the camera and Nod Eset. That didn't fix my issue, but it resolved one later.

I am running a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit. I don't have anything else installed except drivers and the Oculus Runtime SDK 0.4.0. Nothing other that my corded mouse/keyboard is connected via USB. The configuration utility will find both the RIFT HMD and the POS Camera in the configuration tool application.

But whenever the POS camera "literally sees" the HMD it will error out and crash the Oculus service, the camera light will turn off then after a minute it starts up again. But if the camera picks up the HMD in it's sight again, it will start this cycle all over again. I haven't been able to run any sort of apps since I received the DK2.
