Ya I purchased this because VR player is a bit juddery, bit there are no 180 degree projections, so back to VR Player for now. I hope you do add this though, the playback was very smooth.
My app LiveViewRift can play 180 degree panoramic videos. Check it out! :)

Oh and the subtitle problem I had on "Avatar" was down to me checking the forced subtitle box by mistake. leave this unchecked and set the subtitle language to your mother tongue. This will result in subtitles only being displayed when there is a different language being spoken. :)

Thanks for this! Going to rip some of my Blurays tonight and see if I can come up with the same results.

This seems a little glitchy and hasn't worked on every try. I Think the box does need to be checked to force subtitles after all. It's failed a couple of times on me now so I would recommend using the preview window and checking for subtitles before starting the transfer. The preview window will show the subtitles options changing while running and checking box on/off in real time.

Hm. Did you deactivate Alt+Enter in this release? I'm running MaxVR in extentend because I never got Direct to HMD to work with this app. Direct always just shows black and now i can't switch to full screen in extended anymore.

  • Any plans for dome projection too? If you look at something like VR Player, there's many distortions out there, I love the low persistence and performance.

But try the videos at: http://vrplayer.tv/ full-dome, dual-dome, dome etc are truly immersive, not sure if this is meant to just be a cinema player or fully immersive player.

In-Paris don't work well. From what i understand, need a sphere projection, similar or equal to the standard photosphere format: https://www.google.com/maps/about/contribute/photosphere/
    In-Paris works with VRPlayer.

Odd, alt-enter was never put in the app. So it won't do anything. By default it will always stay full screen. In direct to HMD it will be a window on your monitor bull full screen in the rift.
In extended it will be full-screen on both.
I would try opening MaxVR.ini and change the extended compatibility setting to equal 1. This may help you get extended working again.

Can you add a little more on ini file settings? I'm asking for "mirror to monitor" default line, for i am use it every time.

    Hello, one question:
when I try to play most m2ts-files there comes the message "filters on pc incompatible with maxvr, please install lav filters and use win7dsfiltertweaker (www . codecguide...) to set LAV filters as preferred.
But the same message comes after setting (even all preferences) in the win7dsfiltertweaker (5.9) to LAV and even (new) installation of the K-Lite-Codec too...
What else could I try ? / what settings or missing software might be the reason ?

And is there an "overview" about the (complete) recommended preferred decoder settings ? (for all video/audio formats) or just everything to LAV ? (where offered)
btw. what does the option "use merit" cause ? (this was automatically set at some video formats after installing k-lite )

    ps. great player

    Possible codec / filter hell.
Uninstall K-Lite then Try Refreshing your codecs using :
    http://shark007.net/win8codecs.html

This uses LAV Filters too and was reported to me by a customer that solved his problem with filter / codec hell.

Ok, even when using Win7 (64bit) ? (because of the URL ...win8codecs...)

I also used to be able to use alt+enter to put the rift in full-screen on my second monitor, but actually lost that ability when you created an "official" extended desktop mode. With extended mode activated it launches as a window on my main monitor. I am running windows out with the rift also set to extended mode and in windows it is set as my secondary monitor. GPU is an R7 260x. I've just been using the newest version that lets me use alt+enter to go full screen on the Rift.

EDIT: Slight correction. The last version that works properly for me is 5.9, which DOES include your extended desktop mode, so that wasn't necessarily the feature that broke the (unintended) functionality.

I've used the program through the last 5 or 6 updates, and every version has crashed when I try to open a movie while in direct-to-rift mode. I've only been able to use the program in extended mode. This isn't a big deal but I'd like to know the cause. This happens with any video file I try, and I've tried a large variety. I have the dump created from the most recent crash but it's too big to upload as an attachment. Carandiru, would you like to review the log for any evidence of what might be causing the problem? If so how can I get it to you?

Sorry I never got back after your PM, work always gets a little crazy the final week of the month, especially with a holiday weekend. Anyways, great news! I figured out the issue. Since I was able to launch the program and only experienced the crash I thought it might have something to do with the decoders. I know very little about how these things actually work, but got very lucky. I opened the LAV video settings, and my eyes crossed looking at all the settings. The first thing I tried was the hardware decoder, I switched it from DXVA-2 (copy-back) to DXVA-2 (native) and viola, I can now open videos in Direct-to-Rift mode without crashing. This also negates any of the issues I was having in my previous post since I no longer need to use the extended mode.

Nope. I had tried adjusting the ini file already, doesn't work. This is what happens in more detail:

With the rift switched to direct mode, MaxVR doesn't seem to send a signal to the HDM at all (LED is orange). It shows the window on the monitor, which reacts to head tracking however. I can run other apps like Titans of Space in direct just fine.

In extended mode it shows windowed either on the monitor set as primary, or if I move it to the (secondary) rift using windows+shift+arrow key. I've been using MaxVR since the first public release and alt+enter always worked to make it fullscreen at this point. Not anymore! Tried 0.6.4 this morning, no change.

Not sure how todo vertical video. If I do that all video's played vertically will be very squished. If a video that you download has a vertical aspect ratio - It might play correctly.

Not sure what you mean by add left/right side separately. If you mean flip stereo left/right side you can do that with the "W" hotkey.

vertical Video= you record the video in vertical position of camera. and you have 1920x1080. if you display it on normal monitor then you have 2 options. You watch it in full size but the pictue is rotated , or you flip it 90deegree to fit the screen and watch it normaly- the downside of the secound solution is that you have a lot of blank space on left and right side of 2d video
in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt9zSfinwFA is said not to use vertical video for your recordings and its true for normal displays but not for the rift. For manny scenarious vertical video would be a much better solution than normal horizontal shots. So you record something with vertical position of camera and then you display it rotated 90 deegry.. So the solutions is not about squeezing things its about rotating.

Not sure what you mean by add left/right side separately.--
when you want to make 3d sbs file you have to worry about used codec and quality lost.
but if you made a 3d video with 2 cameras(both synchronized) then you have an output of 2 separated files and that you could directly put in VR player.. one file for left side one file for right side.. No additional prolbem with creation of sbs files. In sbs conversions you lose a lot of quality so the option to use 2 separated files would could be an improvment

Ah cool, never thought it would be so simple. I'll add rotation in the next release.

As for separate view files, one left and one right, vs SBS.
For now I don't think you could actually see a discernable difference if you were to compare this - in the Oculus Rift.
If the Oculus rift gets a higher resolution display in the future I can add support. For now I would recommend converting these files to SBS - and if your worried about quality and not disk space jack that bit rate (cbr) or (vbr) wayyyyy up.

when comes to sbs files there might be a chanse that simple rotation wont work as it should becouse of nature of sbs files. When you have horizontal SBS file you lose Horizontal resolution which is fine,,but when you rotate the same picture even if the overall resolution stays the same you will get lower vertical density.
"human vision system can cope better with loss of resolution horizontally than vertically i.e. throwing away horizontal info is better than throwing away vertical info."
maybe it could be solved by"line by line interlaced"
Here is something that might be usefull
    http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/3d-stereoscopic-production-delivery/509889-side-side-vs-line-line-interlaced.html

P.S I really think that the abbility to watch video 2x1920x1080 in CV1 is going to be esential becouse with this resolution you can put the screen really close to the viewer and even make some warping with still good density of resolution:)
P.S2.For rift you can create totally new 3d videos that would not work on tv's but would be pure awesomeness on rift. For example normal 3d videos are normaly targated to be shown in cinemas and tv sets.To make it happen the main consern is % of positive and negative parallax to be the same on 10m screen in cinema and 50" tv set at home. This need narrows the posibilities of 3d effects. With rift you can have 50m screen at distanse of 10m then any of pixel of resolution in your movie matters. Why 50m screen? why not?+ you can warp it to make some effects just above your head:)

Ok, I'm trying to understand what this is? So it's a virtual cinema where I can watch films as if I'm sat in it?
So I can put a DVD in it will show up in the oculus? Also you can view 3d movies like Avatar? Or I have to convert the DVD /bluray first??? There seems to a load of confusing video formats??? Where do I start? Can someone explain in simple terms what you have to do? Sorry for the dumb questions in advance

    Ps
    Also what are LAV filters???
I would really like to experience a 3d film in the rift.
I don't have a bluray player on my PC so how do i get my bluray films on it? I
