  • Is there any way to download an earlier version?
0.4.2 created lots of problems for me, stuttering and lost positional tracking in all demoes I tried, so I had to go back to 0.4.1, and the latest MaxVR version doesn`t find my Rift with 0.4.1

Can you send me the MaxVR log file via email? I'll pass on the prior version to you. You can find my email on your receipt or on my website thanks.

    Possible codec / filter hell.

Yep, in LAV Splitter configuration you can type in "eng" to have it auto select English if you like. If you want to select them on the fly, you will have to also select show in system tray. With the movie started you can then right click on the LAV Splitter icon that shows up in the system tray and select your audio track. Sounds more complicated than it really is.

    Bought it! Great player!

I found one issue, I have Avatar SBS 3D but its right/left flipped by default so I used "W" key to flip it to get correct 3D but it seems something isnt right, I get strain on the right eye, something is off...

I'll have to look into this, question for you how does one know if the SBS 3D is supposed to be flipped, applying to any video for that matter. Just wondering if there is something I could do automatically in relation to this.

Watched Avatar 3D using Smooth Video Project and MaxVR. It was hands down the best movie experience of my life. People NEED to try this out.

I only have one 3d movie which is over/under, I tried TAB to get it to display correctly, I could see the text notifications but it didn't seem to change anything but changing the setting in the menus worked.
After that it worked well, tried a 2d movie which was also good.

I take it with subtitles the LAV filters will only display them if they're muxed into the video file? I had external subs and couldn't figure out how to get them to show.

0.7.0 is awesome. Not sure if the massive changes came in 0.7.0 or a past update that I just did not spend much time in, but this player is in a class all to its own. In all other players I have tried and even earlier versions of MaxVR 3D, content just felt off, a bit blurry and I did not get a good sense of depth. Now things are sharp, butter smooth and have strong 3D depth. Not to mention all the cool 360 degree video demos that I have struggled to get to work in other players are easy to setup and look perfect. I am very happy with this product :)

Uh  Since latest 0.4.2 runtime and 2.12 firmware was step back in performance in my case(and many others) I reverted back to 0.4.1 and 2.11 and now MaxVR doesnt detect Rift.... :|

EDIT: Nevermind, I updated runtime to 0.4.2 but left 2.11 firmware on Rift...now it works

EDIT2: But I am getting stuttering/frame droping now

Sorry to hear that, I have noticed a couple of new issues with the 0.4.2 runtime myself, however the chromatic aberration is fixed which is great. So I'm hoping oculus releases a hot fix.

Direct to rift HMD is working however some users may experience judder now with 0.4.2
If that is the case extended Desktop mode solves the problem, also don't forget to enable the setting in the MaxVR.ini file (extended compatability mode)

    Hi Jason,

Noticed new bugs after upgrading from 0.6.8 to 0.7.0 (upgraded to 0.4.2 SDK and new firmware before trying, running Win 7 64):

    - extended shows just black in the window on the monitor and in the DK2. No MaxVR logo and if I load any video, I hear the sound, but there is no output, not even the fast forward bar.

    - this is worrisome, because direct mode is still as spotty as it used to be for me, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Switching to extended and back might be part of the problem there. Got it to work once, but noticed vsync trouble. Didn't try switching aero off though ...

    - 360 panoramic screen works for me in 0.6.8, in 0.7.0 the picture is stretched to 180 degrees instead, the back half of the view remains black.

Sounds like your running in extended Desktop mode, for this you need to set extended compatability mode in MaxVR.ini for this to work. Set it to 1, otherwise a black screen will result if it's 0.

Need to set extended compatability mode to 1 in MaxVR.ini if oculus display mode is set to Extended, this is the reason for the black screen.

360 panoramic is a little bugged at the moment, use hotkey to toggle full and half mode for different results.

  • So i bought this but have several issues:
    1. No sound from any videos. Playing mostly m4v. Not sure why there is no sound, no one else seems to be having that issue.
    2. Jutter on directso I enabled extended, but...
    3. I can see the start menu and the top of the window in extended, since it's not really full screen. Creates bright edges on the top and bottom of my screen.

Ugh... Still waiting for a good 3D player. Finally this one has good fps, but so many other issues...

Hi Carandiru, any chance of some 'look-at' type controls? I'm finding some problems with my windows cursor being off display and if I try to click anything it minimises or un-focuses the MaxVR window.

If your running extended try alt-enter, this will enable full screen mode and get rid of the start menu / top of window. You will love MaxVR (I hope lol)

m4v, from what I can recall at this moment is "video only", I believe there is also m4a which is the audio. You will want to mux these two formats into a mkv.

If you have any other questions you can always email me.

No real plan for "look at controls", however there is now xbox 360 controller support.

I wish there was a way to detect if the user is actually wearing the rift - then lock the mouse to the viewport of the window. Right now I lock the mouse to the window which does unfortunately include the minimize and close buttons.

It's a tough one, maybe there's a better, simpler solution. Look at controls wont really work for seekbar and stuff like that.

I get what looks like light screen tearing across video. Looks like about twelve to fifteen lines across the screen during playback. It's not static and moves up and down as the video plays. It's related to head tracking as it moves with the HMD around the screen and even twists slightly with head movement. Do not see this effect with other VR movie players like Riftmax or Whirligig when playing the same files so it's definitely VRMax that's the issue.

Every VR video player out right now has some kind of issue unfortunately. Still trying to find that one that plays 3d video well without little annoyances like this. This is still the best player of the bunch though as the others give me audio issues with some of my videos. Riftmax is a cool social toy, but none of my full length movies will play in it, VR Player is difficult to get looking good, and Cinevo is...Cinevo.

Does this happen with all videos or only some? I have no screen tearing on mine. There will be visible screen tearing on the window in the monitor due to 75hz and your monitor probably set at 60hz. However the tearing will not be visible inside the rift.

I have downloaded 0.7.0 and no matter what I try, I can't use extended mode, I always get the app to render on my monitor. Direct Mode works perfectly, but I can't choose 75 Hz on SVP if the Rift is not detected as extended monitor, that's why I want to use extended.

I have set extended mode to 1 in MaxVR.ini, but it will still render the program on my main monitor only. I have two screens and the Rift, I run Unity demos with -adapter 2 parameter. Maybe MaxVR won't work in extended mode unless the Rift is adapter 1?

Got it working perfectly! Aero disabled. Vsync in nvidia control panel Off. Extended mode. SVP On. Just watched Gravity, WOW!

Developer, add 3D cinema theme, seats and all, you have jackpot! :D

This is how I got extended working. In nVidia control panel I have Rift on the right and my main monitor(primary) on the left. I run MaxVR player it shows on my main monitor, I load movie, drag MaxVR player to the left until I cant see it and press Alt+Enter to get it Full screen. Thats it!

    Awesome man, great to hear.
You can also use Windows Key + Shift then left or right arrow key. (to move window to rift screen)
