Very Quiet.....

Hmmm it's all gone very quiet here...

Has all there has to be discussed been discussed?

Have we all run out of ideas??

Or are we resigned to the fact that we pretty much won't get anything out of Oculus until September?

It's not just Oculus... the entire VR industry has gone quiet... there is little to no news of any consequence...

Quiet before the Storm? :ugeek:

Maybe we should have a chat about field of view?

Perhaps we should discuss the Fabric?

It's wearability / tareabaility and possible smellability...

Thing it's gonna be durable enough to stand the test of time?? 8-)

And what is with a nose gap anyway?? I mean REally??

Dusty tumbleweeds roll across Main St., an eagle screeches from far above. The noonday sun so large and hot it seems to evaporate the very shadows from the earth. In the distance a rattler gives its warning to no one. This once vibrant town is now a ghost, melting away as mirages do.

    It's quiet...
    ...too quiet.

Palmer Luckey, hiding away behind the barrel with two Peacemaker 9MM revolvers in black, Brendan Iribe, up on the roof with a Winchester, Nate Mitchell at the Saloon Bar chatting up a dancing girl, John Carmack in a rocking chair on the veranda smoking a pipe and Michael Abrash dressed in black with tape measure and standing next to the undertakers shop.....

out in the distance but coming into town is Gabe Newell's pose.... Big and Bold Horse and Cart show..

Gable's horse stops cold, the medicine show cart lurches and threatens to spill its contents of snake oil and dreams. The horse senses danger but Gabe, ever the optimist, snaps the reigns and pushes on into the heart of danger.

 Ahaha! VR shootout at dawn, great stuff, reminds me of a certain Red Dwarf episode where they got superpowers in VR.

    RE this forum:
Maybe less fresh meat because now there is no forum link on Oculus homepage.
Someone would have to click on "creators" link and then scroll down to bottom of the creators page.
Pretty sure there used to be a link directly from the homepage?

Sadly you know that Oculus Forum has become a difficult place for some discussions - the move towards the hard level contract and exclusive content discussion, negates the ability to share.

Most of us use the Reddit forums for open discussion, just so we can avoid some of the troll attacks some of us experienced here after the FB acquisition - and also a lot of the "love" ended when this reached a certain level of corporate inclusion.

I do not know how many of you heard about the 'locked' forum proposal from MTBS3D/ITA group?
    http://www.mtbs3d.com/articles/news/14655-immersed-access-is-live

Launched at SVVR, but received zero coverage from certain forums, as if they wanted to block discussion of the idea? This kind of 'loyal fan' censorship causes the migration.
there is little to no news of any consequence...

Maybe not from OVR till September, but that ViVE October news is flaming Reddit!
    https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/3d5b3k/the_final_htc_vive_will_be_revealed_this_october/

I do worry what will happen to ODF post 2016 - it may not be worth while to have this "achieve albatross" round some peoples necks, and may be let die out - replaced with a new OculusRift.com?

i've been thinking this exact same thing for a few months now. i keep browsing these forums to try and find something interesting, but all i find are questions about bugs. Not just in these forums, but all over the net, it seems OR talk has been dropped.
i will say that, ever since the FB takeover, Palmer and team have been VERY quiet. is it all the competition that has sprung up? or has Palmer hit the jackpot and lost interest in VR now that he is a billionaire? money does funny things to people....

the biggest problem are games (fov, and resolution can always be upgraded). VR won't be successful without great games to play with it. Elite is amazing, and Skyrim is phenomenal, but there needs to be more. games made with VR in mind. yet everything is so quiet. even the damn porn thread is flaccid..... is it the calm before the storm, or the hang over after the party? feels a lot like the later to me. i hope i'm wrong.

I vote we morph this thread into a VR Porn thread and at the same time start another new VR Porn thread so we have at least 4 open Porn threads on the 1st page.

Statistically that will anger 50% of the community to oppose them. Topics of morality and religion soon will explode all through the posts. A different group of idiots will wake up that consider themselves the guardians of all things oculus and inform us all exactly how many posts we have ever had on the topic and link us to some old re-hashes and BTW thanks for all your hard work wanna be moderators!

The other 50% will catch wind and come out swinging in support and go to war with everyone else trying to spat on their rights to free speech. The mods will start showing up and warning everyone to be nice.

The threads will finally be locked....

and then someone will post "Very Quiet...."

    (Repeat)

Trust me. This is definitely calm before the storm.
The serious devs are all hard at work putting a final polish on their stuff. The complainers have nothing new to bitch about. The same can be said for the speculators. We're closing in real fast on more reveal dates and ordering schedules. I think the rest of us are just...waiting.

DK2 is old news. The king is dead and the new king has yet to ascend the throne.

I'm sorry but that's simply not true. Either you haven't been looking much or completely forgot about E3 last month in which we received an avalanche of news about Oculus. "Months" and you've found nothing interesting? Not Touch? Not the launch catalogue of games? The Oculus Story Studios stuff? Not the final design of the Rift? The built-in headphones? The debates over SDE and FOV in CV1 alone were a hot topic as of just a couple weeks ago. And there's been a steady flow of interviews with Palmer and Iribe every week since then. The news this week is that Oculus's first-party games (actually third party, but funded completely by them) will only run on the Rift. So there's that to talk about I suppose, but as pointed out by someone else, most of these discussions are had on Reddit. But come on, to ignore all the things that have happened and then use that to sling another diss at Palmer about the Facebook "takeover" is ridiculous. They've been anything BUT quiet ever since the Pre-E3 event.

Yeah, E3 postpartum I guess. Oculus and Sony blew their loads and HTC/Valve are crunching to make it out this year so we're hearing crickets. Gear VR is dead until the next iteration it seems, so there's nothing going on. I've actually managed to stop checking the forum and reddit all the time because of this. Kinda nice actually. I check maybe three times a day, tops. Much better than before and during E3.

On the plus side, things have been fairly civil. I haven't had to ban or warn anyone in a while.

If you need to ban some people during the exciting times, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. If someone's not saying something really stupid, it's just not a fun forum to be on. We need a big announcement bad in this joint.

yeah, I was expecting to hear some news on the Vive at least at GDC Europe next month but now HTC have stated we won't see Vive consumer version and launch lineup until October.

I'll say it for the 10th time: This forum is ignored. (edit: I mean Oculus General Discussions, not strictly dev-related)

    Want another proof?

    Here:
    http://www.reddit.com/user/palmerluckey
    Want to talk about something?
    This is fresh:
I'm convinced that the vast majority of VR-early adopters allready have a controller they are happy and comfortable with
Our extensive market research and actual data from devs suggests otherwise. Same goes for the idea that every VR user will want to buy Touch immediately - hardcore early adopters will, but the amount of motion controlled content out there will be limited at launch, and that won't change in the near future. On top of that, many gamers (especially the sim crowd) would rather invest in a HOTAS or wheel/pedals setup than 6DOF hand controllers. It does not make sense to force expensive hardware on people who won't use it.

I would eagerly disagree and present arguments why I think this is just another example of wrong direction, but... and here we step on the second reason of why the forum is quiet recently - we all got bored. We won't change anything no matter if we're just "whining" or present good arguments. All we can achieve is a change in opinion of some other forum users here, and
    - there's not much of us
    - we already know each other's point of view very well. The chances for persuading anyone with opposite opinion are extremely low.
VR is getting a really slow start, most important things will start to happen after a year from now (Touch), after 2-3 years (significant Touch/Vive content), or even later (FOV, resolution, room scanning, major PC hardware changes for VR, high precision for creative tasks which will trigger the revolution in creating graphics and animations etc.).
    2015 is bo-rrrrinnnnng...
Recently I visited VRfocus page and all the news slots were occupied by "social something".
This is a really "slow news da.. month".
Not an Oculus hater, but not a fan anymore.
Still lots of respect for the team-Carmack, Abrash.
Oculus is driven by big corporation principles now. That brings painful effects already, more to come in the future. This is not the Oculus I once cheered for.

We are overdue for another try at Star Trek. Its time for TNNG. Star Trek was always meant to be a series.

This is JJ.'s last 'StarTrek' (moving to a producer role on future films after the next). That would be a perfect time for a TV (Netflick) series, especially as the 'Game of Thrones' franchise will be coming to a end. I just wonder how they would package it (totally different timeline (ala film), or new approach?)

It is about as quiet as usual in between announcements. A few new great demos out as well as the FlyInside FSX alpha release. The regulars are still posting pretty much every day.

Feels about the same as usual to me.

Johnathan Frakes pitched an idea called Star Fleet and was set far into the future of the next gen, where the rose outlook of the federation has faltered and Star Fleet was in taters....

If you like a darker series...

I liked the idea... don't get me wrong I love Star trek but think Voyager was the best series... they should make star trek more vital, more direct, darker... more adult and realistic.

I really dislike the JJ abrams timeline and films....
