April 12th Update

Perhaps it's a sick thing to joke about, but could you imagine if we all got the 4/12 update tomorrow with an email notification that all our orders were being cancelled?  

"Dear Joe Blow,
Due to your recent complaints on the Oculus Forums, we have cancelled your order.  Mutha fudga, fudge yoself and get the fudge out"

    Eh, I was thinking that complainers would get their rift faster while those who remain quiet are thrown under the bus.

    Well, it's the 12th, has been for 6 hours, WHERE'S MY UPDATE?!?!?  Ok, that's it, I'm canceling my pre-order.  Then I'm going to order again and cancel that one out of spite.

    I'm waiting for the 12th to decide whether to cancel my Vive preorder. But I doubt Oculus are going to announce that they'll be shipping everything two months early...

    Same here..but may forgo VR at this time...we'll see..

    What there should be:

    1) This is the problem

    2) It has effected shipping by this much

    3) Your specific order is now scheduled for DD/MM/YY delivery

    4) Sry. Rift is awesome. Sry


    But what will actually happen:

    1) We are on track - please be patient.

    2) Non-specific generic promise on shipping dates for all.

    Yeah, this is pretty much what I'm expecting. At best, we'll get a new estimated delivery month. With lots of reassuring corporate waffle that tells us nothing.

    At worst, we'll get lots of reassuring corporate waffle that tells us nothing.

    On the bright side though, they really do seem to be picking up the pace on shipping, so there's hope that whatever the shortage was, it's been solved now :)

    I do not care what they will say the 12th, i got an email at 12h15 PST, my rift ordering has been processed and is on this way :)

    I checked mybank acount, they took $655 so it is true :)

    For the info, i was a 25xx with confirmation email at 806

    @galopin congrats man! I know you're excited, as I've seen you post this announcement elsewhere lol.
    I can't wait for the day that I can feel the same!

    But yea I have a feeling the reality of tomorrow's update will be somewhere in between the worst case and best case scenarios.

    This should have been communicated a long time ago with daily updates.

    It would be difficult for any company in Oculus' situation to predict the exact day such a large quantity of backordered items would ship to every specific customer, especially items that have not even been manufactured yet.

    Its a lose-lose situation even if they tried. They would get no reward for shipping early and being late by even a day would bring hundreds of hate posts all over the internet.

    except that we pre-ordered 3 months ago... it's not like they didn't know this was coming... they have been dangling the release in front of us for months prior to the "pre-order"s opening so it's not like they didn't know how many they needed to ship.

    @kzintzi ;My point was that the people expecting them to give everyone an exact ship date are going to be disappointed. I'm not going to argue over the logistics of producing hundreds of thousands (millions?) of units of a new technology in just 3 months time.

    @water_ Quote should work on desktop (needs to be fixed on mobile). However, it doesn't auto-scroll you to the bottom of the page. So you sometimes have to click quote once, and then scroll to the bottom and look at the post box. Thanks.

    Lucky you!! With Roadrunner as my email provider, and ALL the problems that us Roadrunner customers are having with the Oculus train wreck support service(emails), I don't even get the bad(expired) links anymore to even have a .001% to even look at my order. Just keeps getting better and better.....

    I went from July to the end of July, so I presume most of the impact is on the people who ordered earlier.

    Either way, guess I'll be playing with my Vive for a few months before the Rift arrives... if HTC get their act together.

    I'm a 30x  and got a estimated shipping date May28-June 6.......the delay is kinda taking the excitement of VR away from me lately.

    i have the vive and rift on the same card so whichever ships first will be my device for this year, Looks like vive it is :(

    I got to demo vive last summer and its amazing! I ordered rift and it was a tough decision, from hands on experience with the vive, it was really great! I went with the rift out of loyalty from following rift from start and I think its ergonomically better, where my struggle was at , was I tried vive and walked away excited and amazed, I'm crossing my fingers and keeping faith rift will be comparable.

    I agree.  I'm just bummed.  It would have been nice to have it arrive while that "little kid at Christmas time" feeling was still fresh.
