5 stars indicate to me that it's perfect, like a 10 out of 10. But there is definitely room for improvements in the game. However if you are indeed go by if it's a must have in your collection then i would say if you like these type of games then yes.

This is a test post which I posted in the community section hoping it would be hidden so as not to spam the regular forums. A poll could be made for each game, then a dedicated sticky thread which links to each poll. I wanted the mods to see if this would be ok first (hence why I posted it in community) but it has auto placed itself in General.

The idea is the actual posts are only accessed via the links in the sticky user reviews thread so as to not clog up the forums. Failing that, these should be posted in the Games & Apps Forum. I'll post a few more examples to get the ball rolling.

MODS please move this thread to the games & apps forum.

Is it a superb entry from round 1 for the Rift? Yes.
Should you have it in your collection? Yes.
Is there room to improve in order to reach 5-stars? Yes, I would like to see more unique character development, more weapons/skills etc. in Chronos 2.0, but will be a buyer for sure.

The Labyrinth level sealed this as a "must buy" for me.

Actually it was your ramblings about this game that actually pushed me to buy it (and the Summer sale was the icing on the cake).

The best atmosphere in VR so far for me so i gave it a 5, but i would only give gameplay a 3 at best. This is my big worry with VR as they will rely on the VR to be the only good thing & neglect the depth of gameplay.

I have seen so many positive reviews of Chronos that I brought it despite knowing it wouldn't be my thing. This was a mistake. I have spent 2 hours on this game and to be honest it feels like 20 hours! I just can't get into this hack, hack and hack again.... next room hack, hack and hack agian and so on.

For me there was a potential for a really good game here but the constant combat spoils it for me. Yes i realise that there are many people who love this kind of thing but I found it boring as heck.

On the positive side the graphics are well done and there are some small to medium level of puzzles (so far). I personally loved the 1960's abandoned base theme but got really dissapointed when it turned into generic RPG land. I found the controls I bit screwey too... for example, sometimes you would exit the screen on the left, only to find the next room you enter on the left... however if you keep pressing the left direction, you keep moving right across the screen?

Don't get me wrong if you are into RPG, this is a going to be a great game for you but please be warned if you are not into that game type, don't get carried away with the hype of reviews like i did

Yeah, I would have been fine with it staying with the 1960's Resident Evil meets LOST theme.

Visually stunning. I really like the setting. One of the more 'complete' VR games available in that it feels like I could compare it on the level to a console game bought off the shelf in a store somewhere (rapidly becoming a living anachronism).

Is there anyway I can view the results of this poll without voting? I have not yet purchased Chronos and would love to see the overall results here... I know, I know... I need to play it.

Also - I love jrpg's and a good story line. I am not huge into Dark Souls or purely action combat based RPG's though - would Chronos possibly be something great for someone playing for the story line and not the action?

There is a "view poll" option... it should be at the bottom of shadow masks 1st post above?

As far as Chronos goes... unfortunately combat is everywhere, virtually every room you enter.

The fact that combat is everywhere isn't "unfortunate" lol

That's like saying that Discussion Forums are unfortunate because they have words :o

Also, in Chronos once you clear an area it stays clear. The monsters do not respawn unless you die, so as long as you don't suck you can kill the monsters fairly quickly and then focus on the puzzles. If you don't like combat, you definitely shouldn't buy a game that makes you pick between a Sword and an Axe.

Only just started playing but oh man is it fun! And stunning visuals. I don't like some of the camera angles though. I would've liked the camera to follow the player from above and behind the character, not the fixed positions that it has now. 4 stars.

The fixed position becomes quite entertaining during the later levels.

A VR version of classic games.  Reminds me of resident evil the way the camera is positioned.  I'd go 4.5 if that was an option.

@Zenbane flibber was replying to Genetix who said he prefers story heavy, combat light games. He was basically saying "unfortunately this game probably won't appeal to you as it has a lot of combat".

For me, it sounds absolutely perfect. :)

Great early days VR game. I am not too sure about the resident evil style camera, it works most of the time but makes the levels very disorienting, which could be fixed with a map. Spent a little bit too long running round looking for something that I might have missed a couple of times when the solution was already at hand. Boss fights feel a little bit clunky, but overall it is generally fun game. Also note it gives a real sense of height in certain areas that takes a bit of getting used to.

I said 4 stars only because I don't give many games 5 stars, but I'd recommend it right up there with Edge of Nowhere as a game any new Rift owner should probably buy.  If it wasn't in VR it would still be a good game but not amazing.  In VR it is pretty amazing.  One of my favorite things in adventure games and RPG's with 3d environments is just looking around and feeling like I'm in an actual place.  Good environmental design does that for me.... but good environmental design in VR is just amazing.  I love walking into a new 'room' in Chronos and just looking around.  They also do a good job of putting the camera in clever spots which makes it interesting.  One little side-note of something which is awesome in VR... since it's a 3d space and you head is tracked by the sensor.. you can actually lean in around obstructions in the environment and peak around corners; it sounds like a small thing but it's super cool.

Would also prefer the "Lost" base theme over fantasy setup through all the game as well as less fighting more puzzles. Still love the game. Will give it 4 or 5 when I get it completed though. Haven't decided yet.

The story mostly comes in the form of journals and computer terminals you can find and read  (done in a very cool way. Instead of plastering a text box over the UI like a traditional game would do, it switches to a first-person camera and you actually lean in to read the words directly off the journal/screen, right there in the 'physical' game world)

Though there are a handful of NPCs to have one-sided conversations with you (in typical RPG fashion).

I guess you could say that the world environment itself is kind of a story too, part fantasy and part mystery

As for combat... yeah, it's everywhere, and the boss fights in particular are REALLY challenging, but there's no shame in playing on Easy mode if you don't want it to obstruct you from the story and puzzles.   Like Zenbane said, enemies ONLY respawn when you die, so set the game on easy to make them fairly trivial to defeat, and so long as you use your health potions conservatively (because those ALSO only replenish when you die) and don't walk off a cliff or something (happened to me a couple times)  you should be fine.

Yeah, on the first level I got all the way to the end (where you get on the elevator lift) and as I was walking on the catwalk to the elevator, the camera shifted and what was once forward on the controller was now pointing off the side of the cliff. Needless to say, I fell off and had to play the whole level again. Wasn't happy, but it did make the rest of the game that much more intense once I knew that could happen.

@cybereality  -  I got taken out by a part shortly before that, where you round a corner and you can see the door (leading to the Blacksmith's workshop) and it looks like you can just walk right up to the door, but you're supposed to detour around to the left because there's just that.. gap in the cliffs between the door and the far edge of the scene.   I casually walked the protagonist right off the ledge and didn't see it coming :hushed:

I am 100% convinced they designed that scene like that just to show players that walking off cliffs is a threat.  Needless to say, the "Labyrinth" portion of the game had me sweating.
