You might be able to use a external desktop gpu if your laptop supports it but to be honest it will probably be a lot more hassle free to build a desktop pc for it, and now the Nvidia 10 series is out you can probably pick up a 970/980 pretty cheap 🙂

He can't. If you want any kind of worthwhile experience you need a desktop PC and no a laptop doesn't come close to the power of a desktop computer.

Everything detects fine at Oculus setup, all the tests pass. Its as VR ready as a desktop and the VR experience is superb. So far this thing has handled everything VR that I have thrown at it....

Oculus pretend laptops cant be used because its easier for them to do that than provide a solution to let people know whether a laptop will work.

There are like 1% of laptops that can work. Notice I said "mobile graphics chips" rather than just "laptops". Mobile chips (like 970m) still aren't supported. The desktop-class GPUs on laptops can work, as well as laptops that allow external desktop GPUs to be used. But this is a small, expensive, subset of laptops on the market (and if you own one of these setups, you know what you are doing).

@tmxmra you act like desktop 980 is standard issue in laptops?ost people on here ask about 960m-980m laptops. They don't even know the difference between desktop and mobile gpus. The amount of time it would take to educate the world is just silly. It's plastered everywhere that an oculus will not work on any mobile gpus. You have a desktop gpu so the whole thread does not even remotely apply to you at all.
