Amazon Touch orders - expected delivery date change (surprise!)

JD-UKJD-UK Posts: 2,289 Valuable Player
The inevitable date change from Nov 23rd has come - but it ain't 10th December, either!

Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:

  "Oculus Touch Controller"
Estimated arrival date: December 06 2016

One of our aims is to provide a convenient and efficient service but in this case, we've fallen short. Please accept our sincere apologies.

You haven't been charged for these items. We don't charge your payment card until just before your parcel is dispatched, at which time we'll send you an e-mail to confirm the payment details, estimated delivery date, contents and method of delivery.

If the order won't arrive by the time you need it, you can cancel the order or an individual item from your order by visiting Your Account, and viewing the order details. As long as the item hasn't entered the dispatch process, you'll be able to cancel it.

December 6th is the official release date. Direct from Oculus orders have Dec 6-15 as the estimated delivery.

Online (third party) retailers make up estimated dates for things all the time.  If you haven't heard it DIRECTLY from the company that is making the product, you should take any other source's estimate with a grain of salt.

Anyways, we're about to be neck-deep in the holiday seasons.  Just lose yourself in all of that and Touch will be on your doorstep before you know it.

Amazon's [UK] product page for the Touch needs a good update. It was probably the page that appeared a month or so ago ... Was showing the wrong release date until today's update, stated platform is Android, nothing about the extra sensor and only one picture of an earlier developer version of the Touch...

Quite unlike amazon to get something like this wrong...

Anyway, pre-ordered with Amazon yesterday, today received the inevitable e-mail update with the correct delivery date.

How are you guys getting actual delivery estimates? When I pre-ordered yesterday, Amazon incorrectly had December 31st as the release date, so I had a January 2nd delivery date. Now I've received an email from Amazon stating they need "more information" before they can give me a firm delivery date. Checking the order, it just says:

"Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date."

I ordered as soon as the site went live in the US. Still, this doesn't bode well for a Dec 6th ship date...

That looks very much like the message I got when I ordered my EVGA 1080FTW.  Don't worry too much, delivery was only delayed by about 6 weeks.

Noooooooooo. How long did it take you to find out it was delayed?

About a day I think it was.  I'm not sure what/who caused the delay, but I did see on the forums that some peeps, in the same boat as me, had their orders cancelled.  I think the price increase caused by the shortages and the post-brexit exchange rate-fuelled changes probably led to Amazon not making so much profit.

Normally delays/cancellations are due to suppliers.

Amazon aren't always the best at keeping pre-order release dates current. If there is a supplier delay, the item's page normally goes from 'Pre-Order' statues to 'Due in 3-6 weeks'. After a day or two, a new delivery estimate e-mail will be sent.

I normally check my account the day before the expected delivery date. If the order doesn't show 'Getting ready for Dispatch' then it's probably delayed for some reason ...

Yes they are, according to the announcement I read yesterday.

I've ordered lots of stuff from Amazon prior to its release over the last 15-odd years and it was very rare that something was late (Frontlines: Fuel of War comes to mind) but even then, there was plenty of notice and they didn't cause the delay.

Everything else came on time, sometimes even cheaper than I expected.

mine still says `Delivery date pending`. well when do you think they will answer? and on amazon it doesnt say camera sensor and rock bond connector. They missed it or what?

Well it's hardly likely to be the same price but minus the sensor. Someone at Oculus told us we get those things (including the codes) when this came to light - don't remember who right now and if it was here or at their website.

Not that I am personally bothered about the codes, tbh

I totally believe Amazon will come through, its a pre-order so as far as they are concerned its a priority, only issue really is they depend on Oculus. Oculus is the problem, trust me..either way u are better of going through amazon if u have prime membership.
The day the preorder are set out to to be release, u can bet amazon will deliver within the same day based on stock availibility. Stock availibility however is dependant on Oculus. So if Oculus screw up, we get screwed, but i promise it will be the last time Oculus screws me!! haha

I love how they listed the "rock band connector" as a bullet point for selling all of touch. Seriously?

What if we never intended on playing rock band? Yes it was real cool of Palmer lickey to get up on stage with a plastic guitAr and yell "rock on" I got really excited. But I think it is unfair to force people to pay for this stupid connector by bundling it with touch, unless they bundle the actual game with it.

I really don't appreciate these strong arm tactics by Oculus just like with the Xbox controller.

In the back of my head, I keep dreaming that sometime in the next week or so my Touch controllers will just show up - Oculus taking steps to deliver early and giving us all a great surprise. Ultimately, that is not likely going to happen but Dec. 6th is not all that far away from now anyways - the important thing is that there is not another delay. If my preorder ships on the 6th, or even arrives that day I'll be extremely happy.

    Just want more.

Palmer Lickey, so named for the sweet guitar licks he is famous for.

Btw, much like the Xbox controller, I guarantee this rock band thingamajig will have been packaged in at a completely negligible cost for Oculus and thus won't have influenced the cost of the Touch package in any way,  in the same way that the Xbox controller was GIVEN to you FOR FREE  (and free for you to sell for a nice profit, if you hate having it so much).

Essentially, Microsoft supplied Oculus with gamepads dirt-cheap, to establish their controller as THE controller for Gamepad-based VR  (and to reinforce that whole "you need Windows 10 if you want to do PC VR" thing, I imagine).

And these rock band thingums were packaged in just to promote Rock Band VR.   People who get Touch will see this accessory for Rock Band and it'll make them more interested in trying the game out, if they weren't already. Also it would have been a huge pain for people to pick up this game, which AFAIK is only being sold digitally, and then realize they have to go online and order one of these accessories separately to use with it.  That kind of hassle would have been a negative in the game's reviews.

This kind of bad to have it shipped at this time due to the holidays. more chances of items getting lost in the mail also
