This is an Early Access virtual reality art gallery and club, first featuring works by Astrogun and myself and will expand to feature works by other artists, including original VR art-- with your support! This is in Pre-Alpha now. I'm working on getting multiplayer functionality in next, so we can all join up together in shared space with avatars and voice chat. I'd also like to get 3D art creation tools integrated into the world, so you can do things like create laser drawings in 3D space. Lots of possibilities-- this is only the beginning! And I could use your help funding its development!

Let me know what you think! I've always wanted a cyberpunk virtual reality club made of neon holograms, electronic music, and laser beams...

$10 to hang around in plain, square hallways with pink silhouettes? Sign me up!

    Minimalism :P

The hope is that as this grows and evolves over time (free updates forever to 'patrons'), some really fantastic environment design can be introduced. I'm very interested in impossible geography, for example. Could be very trippy. :)

I slapped down 50 on it. Looks like the beginnings of some fantastic work.
  • I am kinda confused, it looks terrible, the website looks terrible and it's bringing absolutely nothing new to the VR game. I mean, if they would have started modelling galleries for publicly available art works (stuff like in the Google Art Project), now that would have been kinda nice... but this just looks bad and boring with promises without any foundation as far as I can see (I wouldn't be so explicit in my opinion if not for the fact that they are asking money for it).

I'm a bit disappointed as well. Based on other work on your website, I was really looking forward to this.
Website is confusing and doesn't offer any solid information apart from a few catchy marketing lines. I'm not even sure what this is all about? Is it club, is it gallery? How will artwork be displayed? As VR experiences (with Powergrid as some kind of a hub with access to other VR worlds) or just as 3d models on display inside the "club"?

Do you have some videos of pre-alpha to sell us your idea? As it is, I'm not willing to spend money on this, sorry.

    yup, same impression here
what this needs is a free demo, or a limited time access so that we can at least grasp if this is something we'd be willing to spend money on

It's on the itinerary to do a video that explains more about this and where we want to take it. I'm doing some research right now with architecture and reaching out to architects for collaboration to see about really pushing the space even further.

This project is being released under Early Access pre-alpha to get funding support and your feedback as early in development as possible. This is like a Kickstarter, except you can get Powergrid immediately and then receive free updates as it evolves... forever. Know that we've just scratched the surface of what this could be and I can barely contain my excitement to drive this into new territory.

On a side note, you can see some of my research stream now here:

I was surprised to see a patron had made their own walkthrough video and posted it on YouTube.

"Checking out the future of clubbing in virtual reality"
"Taking a sneaky peak at the future of clubbing in virtual reality. This is in early alpha stages so it's not complete by any means! Youtube does not capture the amazing feeling of actually being inside this environment!"

I am working on the official video now... I agree it seems a video will be essential for communicating the project's aim and vibe more effectively.

I threw some money at this as well, in hopes that it will BECOME a funky chat room in the future.

Sure, right now it is very simple, but most things start out this way. It appears that our contributions will help in the continuation of development.

I really hope this ends up being a thing.

Maybe we need to talk about this on a podcast. Email me: [email protected]

Thank you-- appreciated. Yeah I'll send you an e-mail. Thanks for the invite. :)

I'm starting to plan out features for the next update. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. :)

Key things I want to look into right away (but may not be able to implement right away) are:
    - Multiplayer Solutions
    -- Voice chat
    - Body for the Player
    - Establishing the Club Wall, adding 'Club Wall' tier patron names
    - More environment art love
    - Main Menu / Menu Space
    - Consolidating the VR / NVR builds via the Main Menu, cutting download sizes down by half
-- Working out the Forward / Deferred Linear rendering bug between the standard camera and the Rift cam that prevents this
    - An 'antechamber' world that allows you to get your bearings before dropping you into the club
    - Dynamic holographic gallery piece labels

Those are some immediate things. There are much broader, longer-term goals too that I won't get into just yet.

We also have our first guest artist, a graphic designer in England, and will be adding an original piece he's doing for Powergrid to the gallery.
