Pimax UHD HMD - "The Best Headset For Films"

It looks like there are some good things, and some bad things with this $300 HMD:

The first thing I noticed when I put it on was the complete lack of pixels. I mean it, there is absolutely no visible screen door effect that I could see. I was playing iOMoon which is already notorious for it’s beautiful textures and stunning lighting, so I was happy to see that things were extremely crisp and detailed. Adding to that I did not see any “God Rays” that often plague both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive for many users.

I found the item on GearBest.com while I was looking at other mobile VR HMD’s, currently it’s listed for about $350 which is not a bad price considering the clarity of the screens and the OpenVR/SteamVR support. The place I think this HMD will shine is for people who want to use VR while they are traveling. This HMD only requires one HDMI port and one USB 2.0 port which is usable with most laptops. It is EXTREMELY comfortable to wear and I could see myself falling asleep in this if I was in a car or on a plane. Because it has a 4K display it is PERFECT for using Virtual Desktop, BigScreen, and especially for watching movies in VR! Now I can’t wait for ALL HMD’s to be 4K or above! Truly exciting to get a glimpse of the future!

So it is the first choice for watching porn?

That sounds very promising.
Excuse my bad english. I speak to you through the google translator. 😛

There must be something devastatingly wrong with this HMD - please, someone tell me what it is before I flush £280 down the toilet.

No positional tracking, 60Hz max refresh, no hand controllers. All pretty important...

60Hz display and no position tracking. So it's kind of a 4K DK1.

From the Rock Paper Shotgun review:
A more severe issue is that, while stuff looks fairly sharp if you’re
looking at it dead-on, turning your head even a little or flicking your
eyes fast is hoo-boy territory. Edges and text swim for a micro-second,
long enough that you’re aware of your eyes adjusting, and given this is
something you’re going to do hundreds of times during one session, it’s a
huge downside. I’m not well-versed enough in the under-the-hood stuff
to be able to say if this is down to the lower 60Hz refresh rate or
pupil swim issues resulting from the shape and design of the lenses, but
I can speak to the effects, which sadly are fairly unpleasant fairly
quickly. Sickness and head/eyeache, basically, particularly the latter.

As a video viewer 60hz and no positional tracking is not a big deal, so maybe it is the best headset for films. But after an hour searching for reviews it seems that the vibrant colours and inky blacks present in DK2 are not present in Primax - and I'm not going to trade picture quality for no screendoor, however appealing that is. But it's great that 4k HMDs are actually available right now.

Okay then, that overview read a little too much hyperbolic for me, and took me a while to understand if they were just bigging it up because they loved watching VR porn on it, or because it was not a GearVR?

There are a lot of mobileVR headsets out there - after CES the market exploded by another 100% - picking one out of the hay bale is some achievement!

Do the screens inside the headset physically get bigger as you move up in resolution, 2K -> 4K -> 8K, etc... ?
The screens on that headset looks huge.

What are they going do when they get to 16K?  Wrap the screen around your head?
