The connector to the headset is proprietary, not HDMI. Meaning it is specific to the Rift and you can't buy that connector anywhere else on earth. So you have to extend it out at the PC connections through HDMI and USB extensions.

I will say for my first room setup with the 33 foot usb/hdmi.. i do run into an issue where the display on the tv goes black at times.. it may be related to my receiver or possibly the fact in there i use a converter to go from dvi to hdmi since my hdmi is in use.
