Request: Can you enable positional audio for third party headphones?

When I bought my Rift I read that I can choose to use my own headsets instead of the build in ones by rooting the sound through my soundcard by changing the corresponding option in the Oculus software. This works great with one exception: Positional audio.

Unlike on Steam VR were I still get positional audio this way (which makes sense since the Vive don't include headphones) on Oculus store bought games I only get normal stereo but no positional data.

I hope this is just an overside because I actually see no reason why you can't give out the processed stereo signal with the positional data backed in out to my soundcard, since all positional processing happens on the CPU in software anyway.
