Any way to use a VR backpack with the Rift?

I've seen a few VR backpacks from MSI and Zotac, but they both seem to rely on the fact that the HTC Vive sensors don't need to be plugged into the PC. Does anyone know if there's any way to use the Rift without having the sensors plugged directly into the PC?

Oculus Home will refuse to launch any application if the sensor is missing. It will give a big warning message instead.

But if you launch the programs manually from explorer, then then run fine. You'll still get orientation tracking (which might drift a little over time). No touch controllers of course, they definitely do need the sensors plugged in. Basically it turns the CV1 into a GearVR/DK1 style 3DOF tracked hmd.

Kind of annoying that Oculus Home blocks things that would work fine, instead of just warning but not stopping.
