Walking off the ledge (artificial locomotion vs actual walking) in VR

Anonymous
Not applicable
I've noticed that artificial locomotion sometimes removes or lessens presence in certain situations.

For example: I am using artificial locomotion to move forward over a ledge on a high building. I don't get that sense of danger or my brain warning me I should stop. There is less presence, so it's easier to go over that ledge.

On the other hand, physically walking over the ledge on a tall building is actually hard to do. Even though I know it's not real. My subconscious brain (by the way i feel and my reactions) thinks it's a very bad idea.

Therefore, I think even though teleporting is not the best thing in the world, in certain situations it can enhance presence because of how you are to physically move and use the things around you in a given space.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that. Maybe it's just me? lol Idk 🙂
