Games you wish you could play in VR?

For me the few games i wish i could play in VR are the Witcher 3 which would have to be completely redone due to the combat being in third person. Fallout 4 which is eventually coming this year :) and GTA 5 which is probably one i'm most hoping for. I feel the GTA worlds are the most exciting and fun and to escape into a world that is already so immersive on screen would just be pure magic. A GTA 5 VR would kill tv gaming for me :)

My most sought after experiences in VR in no particular order:

    - A Doom-like FPS with non-linear level design that allows you to explore the area's and find secrets (imagine actually pressing buttons on a console or pulling levers to find it open a secret door that leads to a badass weapon/item). Hopefully DooM 2016 VR will fill this void.

    - An FPS RPG with a strong narrative component with good VO/Mocapped actors playing immersive NPC's. Hopefully Fallout 4 fills this void although the immersion on the NPC's are probably going to be a little bit lackluster (as they always are with Bethesda).

    - A Combat space/flight sim with an emphasis on the Simulation (Eve Valk is too arcadey) with a strong narrative component would also be nice. Games like X-Wing/Tie Fighter, Freespace 2 brought to the modern era with VR. Hopefully Star Citizen Squadron 42 fills this void but whether or not it supports VR is constantly in flux, who knows.

    - Mech Combat Sim. Both Vox Machinae and Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries are on the horizon for this one.

Mech games - and a definite +1 on the vox machine and MW5 shout outs!.

@KillCard I presume you have tried Elite Dangerous?

there is a narrative but you do have to dig deep for it.  its not full on sim but its more so than Eve V

gutted that VR is on the bench for Star citizen now.  Apparently it is under consideration for Hellion which looks a super title.

I have been on the fence with Elite D ever since I got my Rift. I know its lauded as one of the best games to play but I know all too well how much of a time sink it is. The thing that doesnt really have me completely jumping at it is just how much the game revolves around long travel times to get from point a to point b. That and, at least when I played it last, the narrative was mostly text and not exactly easy to find/get into as you said.

I have in fact played it flat back when it originally came out, though not for very long, not long enough to give it a fair go. I didn't hate it, but I wasn't particularly wowed by it either .. it's evident that it is a slow-burner and I would need to give it a decent go to get into it (which once you're there, you're probably addicted and cant stop). I guess you could say the game just intimidates me too much on that level lol.

I'll definitely jump in at some point, but now's not exactly the right time .. too much obligations coming up with work etc.

I would love to see a new MechWarrior game that offered single player action, similar in concept to MechWarrior Mercenaries.

That would be awesome in VR!

If you have the horizons DLC there are lots of ways to get into the game quickly now.  multicrew is a drop in / drop out affair so is instant action (note personally i am not a fan of this tho can see why it is implemented so and may be a hook for someone like yourself)

we can now alos pay to have ships transported, so if you want your combat ship where you are, but you are in your trade ship, you can order a freighter to deliver your ship. and you can do ssome missions whilst you wait.

a lot of the complexity in ED is down to poor instructions. if you get a friend who knows the ropes to wing up with you and shadow you, you will find progress in ED now is faster than it has ever been.

its still not a quick game however.

MW5 is definitely SP, and possibly SP only. I think they will have a lot of hangups about cannibilising themselves with MWO, so theres a good chance they wont even include multiplayer.

I do hope they at least include a co-op mode so you can do the campaign with a buddy. I will be happy with a SP campaign though, so yea .. really stoked for MW5.

Cheers for the ED info, those were features that definitely werent in when I played way back when .. I'll keep it in mind when I finally get a chance to play it.

I've found mining in Elite Dangerous to be particularly addictive. I've also found that turning the music off has also been a great improvement too. The music is great but without it the game becomes a true Space Trucker Simulator and is MUCH more immersive.

sorry @OP if this is derailing but all you ED players should get voice attack, as well as EDDI and EDDiscovery.

its like having your very own science officer chat to you as you play the game.

I cant believe that they haven't done anything other than that one psvr mission yet. Its a cash cow and surely the sort of app that would get the masses into vr.

Yup. I'm also surprised that it took them so long to come up with a light saber game after the Wii launched. Now that Disney have the Star Wars rights hopefully we'll see some games that everyone wants to see finally coming.

Borderlands 3. I wish when that is released I could play it in vr. I also wish that it was cross platform and allows vr to play with non vr.

Oh man, utter silence as you float amongst a million rocks, broken by the gentle movements on your stick - you just can not beat it!

I do like to have the music on when travelling long distances - there's a certain part of the default music that i just love.

same the musica of elite is pretty amazing travelling although Zenbanes got me into azam ali, her voice in the stars,

    that is some immersion

The problem is money, at the moment the VR userbase is too small to risk devolving such an expensive game. Think how rubbish PS and Xbox games are when they first come out compared to a year or two later. Big developers don't want their games hitting the market unless there is around at least a 5 million userbase. Once Oculus drops the price to $400 then you will see another good few million units sold. It's still too expensive for the masses

God my list would be to long to put here but my number one would be any of the Elder Scrolls games starting from Morrowind and the Half Life Series plus Farcry 1.

I notice someone mention Stunt Car Racer well I have a game called Nitro Stunt Racing that would be good in VR

I have been able to get Oblivion & Half Life 2 series working in Vorpx almost as good as native...it takes a bit of tweeking but works incredible (also SS so that there is nearly no aliasing). I know some aren't keen on Vorpx but it does do the job for some games that don't have native VR support. Also, apparently it is also able to do GTAV in VR with some tweeking.

I wish someone would bring full support to Alien Isolation. It has support for DK2 but doesn't work with CV1...vorpx does give it VR but there is serious probs with shadows and lighting, reflections.

Star Wars Battlefront would be great in VR.

Metro game series too. Vorpx doesn't really do the job for it yet.

Oh yes, I do play ED and have to say it is incredible...if you can put the time into it...super steep learning curve + grinding to get expensive items but still worth it. It's my go to VR game presently.

You know you can set the FOV in Skyrim to just about anything right? .. I went with 120 when I was playing it in VR, looked perfect.

Ok, sorry, not sure what you meant by the "FOV thing" then.

The only reason I'm not playing Skyrim all the time myself is mostly the UI problems which are difficult to overcome without using Edge Peek. Also, no way to support touch .. which would be amazing if it could happen.

Not to mention that its another real time sink game, same reason as ED.

GTA V amd far cry series.
    My life would be complete.

A bit of crysis wouldnt go a miss but i dont thibk it would work due to how fast paced the combat was. (Quote from back in the day: only people with shit pc's don't like crysis)

For me i would also like something with a deep story and immersive game play, an RPG sort of set in a blade runner universe with a similar epic soundtrack. VR invokes emotions that you never get from the screen so i'm desperate to see developers create stories for us to shape

halflife2 VR IS nearly here (again) there is a thread and video linked on it somewhere on this forum

that nitro stunt racing.... i am now off to see if i can find a copy. it looks mint.

edit, just been to their site, looks like its been left in limbo only half finished. A shame, if ever they release their supposed stage 2 - dev even mentioned VR in one post - then they will have my cash. sadly i am not supporting half finished games with no roadmap to completion.
