Neither a game or VR Porn the implications of this 3D scanning tech are pretty special and obvious to see if you download one of their demos. Sure it's a bit choppy has some horrible artifacts but you can see once they perfect this in the future it's the way forwards for VR characters.

Have a read at what they are trying to achieve and download the demos clips (preferably on an SSD). I'd suggest running on lowest graphics  settings possible and being patient to get them to work.

DIVE IN TO THE FUTURE OF VR CHARACTERS HERE. remember it's a NSFW page.

We were raving about this in the DK1 days.  And yes, it's mind blowing.  I think just the other week i mentioned again how un-nerving it can be getting up real close to their faces.

Doesn't work for me, all I see is the video on the tv screen, nothing in the headset. Tried all the downloads.

Tried this last night, it launched steam vr, game started to launch in headset then switched to screen. It then proceeded to run at 1 FPS on the monitor. Now I don't have the recommended specs I7, 780ti 16gb and non SD drive but I was hoping for more than 1 FPS.

Now looking at the Unity and the Display 1 field option was this written for the DK2?

    1. You need a really good PC.
We recommend Windows 10 OS, minimum of 16GB of RAM, GTX1080 (8GB), 5GB of drive space per demo and to run these demos from a fast SSD drive to hit the desired frame rates. If your system doesn't meet the bare minimum requirements you will notice stuttering.

    2. It will take a while to load. And even in the app it could come to stuttering.

I think this is fantastic. They should focus more on the head. It is a great anatomy study.

It worked out for me. You have to wait a good while (loading time is pretty heavy) and it uses Steam VR. I have 16GB Ram and a GTX1070.

At least they're not trying to sell you Nikes.  (why do spam-bots always do that, on other forums?)

Re: the thread topic,   I'm gonna pass on the porn  (the fact that these are 3D scans of real people makes me think this would just feel too creepy, like stalking, ogling, or molesting a real life person :anguished:  )

but if this tech leads to elimination of uncanny-valley syndrome in VR apps that go for a realistic / life-like aesthetic, that would be phenomenal.

I've read that there's debated evidence the uncanny valley effect actually exists.  It's referenced all the time but they're not even sure if it's a real thing.  (edited out my initial statement that there was no evidence)

It's an interesting field for sure.  I can see it being particularly important for VR applications.

Whats debated? The creeps one is supposed to get? If so, then I might be in agreement. I don't get the creeps, I just get ,"Cool! but thats CGI!" You can't put your finger on what doesn't look real but you just know somethings not quite right.

What? Of course the uncanny valley exists, especially in VR where you feel like you're in the same room as whatever unintentional abomination the game devs unleashed on you.

It's referenced all the time because it's such a common reaction.

Now, if you've been playing games for a long time, you might just be so used to it that it doesn't phase you any more.
