Gray specs on screen when black scenes

Hi all

I've received my OR today and it all looks good except I've noticed clusters of gray specs on the display.  There are only really noticeable there are dark scenes e.g. Cinema mode on big screen app. Would you say this is a faulty headset or is something that is common on the device and have to live with it?

Regards

Paul

Just an update. I've sent the unit back and got a replacement. I've got the same problem (in fact a bit worse). I'm thinking a faulty batch or just a side effect with fresnel lens. I think I'll keep the replacement unit. Its only a issue in dark scenes anyway.

If somebody wants to confirm this, try Project Cars.  At the title screen, look down to the floor.

Yes welcome to the club. I am not buying for a second this is a fluke. There are too many reports about this right now. Had the same thing, waiting for my replacement unit. Since I can compare to my old Rift from October I KNOW this is not normal.

(img is slightly contrast enhanced but it shows what this is about. Some quite fittingly described it looking like a galaxy, and yes this is how it looks)

Edit: Read the above please and DO try the trick with the SPUD registry setting. I mean if it does infact solve the issue without *any* negative side-effect, this would actually be a workaround.

Hi flexy123

Thanks. That has done the trick, fantastic!  I did google the issue prior to sending my first unit back and read about the SPUD tool. I should have messed around with it. Nevertheless, the SPUD reg change has fixed my issue without any side effects and the picture quality looks much sharper. I've still got god rays in black scenes but I believe this is the downside of the lens.

I still think there is an major issue with a batch of Oculus+Touch bundles that support need to address. I raised a support ticket which never got resolved and I ended up sending it back to Amazon. I mean, why don't Oculus recommend the spud fix?

I don't believe in a million years that O., with there being the order/ticket volume they ALREADY have right now would admit that there was indeed a batch of Rifts with this flaw....in the same way as the "right speaker issue" was never officially addressed. Anyway, as said expecting my replacement from caseking (WHAT IS THE HOLDUP GUYS, yes caseking, talking to you...) ....I am without a Rift now for about 6 weeks and I am really slowly getting antsy/angry/frustrated. Caseking has my unit now for a week..I was assuming they'd immediately send a replacement upon receipt of my unit....but obviously RMA takes some time. So many new titles I didn't have a chance to look at even yet. Really frustrating.

I feel your pain  So did you try the spud fix on your device?

Nope..didn't even look at Spud although I knew about it. I considered the flaw so significant (compared to my Rift I had before), I sent the unit back within 2 hours.

Any update? Did the replacement fixed the issue?
