Anyone Interested in using Rift as Monitor?

Id like to see if there are any others who feel the same. From my knowledge the DK2 was usable as a monitor. I would like to see this on the Current version, Anyone else agree?

Sure you can use Steam VR, Bigscreen, Etc...But would it not be more interesting to have the Rift as a full monitor that doesnt need to be mirrored? and These apps make the "somewhat demanding" Rift even more so.

Usable is a very thin term when it comes to the DK2 and the extended desktop functionality. When you extended the desktop to the DK2, you needed the icons in a very specific area because you couldn't see the full screen. You needed to close one eye to look at the desktop, because using both eyes would make you sick before even starting the application you wanted to run. Seriously, the desktop apps like Bigscreen or Virtual Desktop are much better options.

Thats the DK2 though, don't see any reason why they couldnt do that to the current version of rift. Technology is there, sure they need to tweek it a little and its not going to be perfect. ( at least not yet, VR still needs work.) It can be playable though. I feel like attempting to run games through another app (some of the more demanding games) take a bit of a hit in performance due to screen mirroring.

I still enjoy my rift, and im sure many games will be coming in the near future and hopefully more support from newer "mainstream" games.

The performance hit for the screen mirroring is next to nothing. Even with the demanding games, you aren't going to notice any real impact due to the mirroring, so the current options for your desktop in VR are still the better choices.
