Why Does Mobile VR Only Use 1 Controller

Hiro_Protag0nistHiro_Protag0nist Posts: 3,330 Valuable Player
Why is this?  I prefer to hold 2 guns in my hand when zombies are attacking.

Why don't the Gear VR and Oculus Go have 2 controllers?

Last attempt - is there a technical reason for this or is it something else?

Because it's cheap and ineririor version of the real thing.

Buy Oculus Rift for £399.99 now and get 8 free games!

And then you can use touch controllers and duel wield two guns at the same time! :)

I've heard the Oculus VR is nothing compared to the much superior VR GO?

No, you crazy fool. You want the Pimax 64K.

If I had to take a wild guess...

Having 2 devices of the same type communicating with a Mobile Phone that is shoved in your Face is probably a nightmare to manage in VR Software. Although if that's not a real problem then battery draining would certainly increase.

Although in truth, my experience as a Softare Dev lends more to another reason: Someone built a Mobile VR platform to use a single controller in order to rush-to-market, and no one else has taken the time to adjust it because that would take longer and more effort.

So... the answer is either Technical Issues or Laziness.

I'd guess because of the fake tracking.
The controllers are just IMU based, they don't really know position. Having two partially tracked controllers at once is probably more immersion breaking than one. All headsets with 6dof tracking controllers have two while the 3dof mobile controllers only have one.

For the comms stuff, a phone should be able to handle multiple devices, Bluetooth LE supports that. But then again I've been struggling with Bluetooth hardware/software dev crap for the last few weeks, nothing would surprise me. (For example HM-10 BLE modules only support one to one comms, even though the standard says otherwise)

It would be such a game changer.  Well worth the effort of solving any issues I think.

    Hence, Santa Cruz.

Yep, Santa Cruz follows my pattern: it's 6DOF tracking so it has two controllers.
Without position tracking, having two hands instead of one only seems useful for more buttons. It's like using two tv remotes at the same time.

Damn i so want Santa Cruz right now.

Will probably have to spend £200 on Go then whatever SC costs a year later   :s
