I just want to throw it out there that I'm kind of late to the party on this, but I watched a 3D movie for the first time on the Rift last night and was astonished. Even with the low resolution the effect is so convincing it's scary...

Well have downloaded an sbs 3d file, changed the name to movie.avi but when played in the VR Cinema it's really choppy with breaks in the sound, but when the same file is played through windows media centre it plays beautifully ? It's my first time of trying to configure anything so would like to get it playing right before the rift turns up which is currently being processed thanks

As far as I'm aware, the developer has made it that you don't need to rename files any more, and recommends installing the K-Lite codec.

That k-lite codec is that just for Riftmax or VR Cinema 3D as well?

Im not at my pc atm, but if i remember correctly, open the readme in the VR cibema 3D, it should say in there about the codec. If you have read this by tomorrow ill find and paste that part of the readme

Honestly. I haven't tried all that much with mine. Until my Rift arrives, I just downloaded and picked a few things at random to watch for about a minute each, to make sure it works.

Here's what the readme says, if it's still any help

    Notice
    - VR Cinema supports AVI, MP4, MKV, and WMV video formats.
    - You should install a Codec pack. If you don't have any codec, I recommend installing K-Lite codec pack or CCCP codec pack.
    - I used AVPro windows media unity plugin to play movies. This plugin can be activated only in Microsoft Windows (32bit and 64bit) ( http://www.renderheads.com/portfolio/UnityAVProWindowsMedia/)
    - VR Cinema is allowed for private purpose only.
    - Please feel free to email me for any bugs, requests and so on.
My email address is “[email protected]
    - Current version of this app is beta version 0.4. (January, 16. 2014)

I'm not great with codecs and stuff, so I don't really know what else to recommend beyond making sure its the right file-type.

Thanks for that I downloaded k-lite codec last night, I'm not using that player ATM though so I'll have ago I have been looking for solutions but had no joy also, have heard contradictions about re-naming the files,? I've got Avavtar 3D SBS and can't wait to get it all configured properly so it runs smooth it runs fine on it's own in a normal player just keeps messing up while in VR Cinema 3D, however I have now got rid of the pixelation and it's just jumping a bit, so hopefully will be sorted soon

Ive downloeded VR player, definitely not as good looking as VR Cinema, but 3D SBS worked instantly with a problem.
