This is pretty insane that they didn't prepare for the inevitability of this need. I'm working in the education sector with a university that's looking into large scale implementation of VR hardware, and we're already having these problems with the Go's that have been purchased. It just seems so obvious to roll something out, though they must have some kind of internal reasoning for not implementing an update for those of us in need of such a feature. Regardless of these potential internal reasons, it's still ridiculous.

Maybe they say something about the feature when they release the ScreenMirror Thing end of September. It would make the Go a much better device. I'll Experiment with some Workarounds next week!

I have received informal communications that they are working on re purposing the store demo software to address this but nothing formal has been announced. Sounds rather half-hearted to me but I guess gaming and social media are the name of the game.  :/

I wouldn't say that it isn't a priority. Gaming essentially is what it all has started with, but there are other markets they are beginning to put an emphasis on. Their Oculus Connect sessions are at least telling that story as I see it.

I have the problem that my app keeps crashing when opened using OculusKioskMode. Is there anything I need to do to enable an app being eligable as a startup app?

Also: Has the linux version of this tool been discontinued?

Hey there, nice tool you made there. Playing around with the Demo. I just have one Little iusse. When i press the home button, the screen turns black and it is not switching back to the app.
I have to put the GO in Sleep and wake it up again to continue in the app.
    Best regards nad

This would be pretty ideal if the home button worked. But I have the same problem - the screen turns black. Did something change in vrshell? According to logcat, when I press the home button this is what happens:

    09-26 13:54:00.601 1672-1779/? D/SystemUtils: sendBroadcastIntent - action: 'com.oculus.vrshell.intent.action.LAUNCH' data: 'systemux://dialog/exit'intent_pkg: com.Company.testgo
    09-26 13:54:00.604 1672-1779/? D/SystemUtils: VR Shell isn't running.

I don't have a com.oculus.vrshell on my Go. I do have subsets of them though.

    pacific:/ $ pm list packages -f | grep vrshell                                                                                                                        package:/system/priv-app/VrDesktopPanelApp/VrDesktopPanelApp.apk=com.oculus.vrshell.desktop

    package:/system/app/VrShellHome/VrShellHome.apk=com.oculus.vrshell.home

Anyone heard an update on Kiosk mode after the big keynote?
It would be great if the tech press were to ask them some useful questions - like about the glaring lack of a professional mode.

Good point. At Games for Change, the educator panel pointed out that the lack of kiosk mode is a disaster for Oculus in schools, because an active Home button puts kids a few clicks away from objectionable content including porn.

Yes. Being able to administrate Oculus Go to lock down everything else is incredibly needed for a training environment. Porn is like a worse case scenario.

However, time is important as well and if you have to navigate each person who puts on the Oculus Go on where to go that is huge waste of everyone's time. It's possible to do Kiosk mode now - See the new game coming COVERT. I just do not think Oculus has anything officially supporting it. Get on it OCULUS!

In the new update (Oct 2018 139090.3070.0) There is now an option to turn off auto-sleep and disable proximity sensor which is awesome, but I can no longer get apps to auto-launch on boot up using the Android manifest. I also tried installing the KioskMode demo https://oculusgokioskmode.tweaklab.org/ but it doesn't work either with the new update. I just get an error message: Oculus System has Stopped! and I tried installing it a couple times. Looks like they gave us some of what we asked for but also broke our work-arounds :(

That's bad news. :(  They really need to make this possible because its wirelessness is the key advantage in a demo/kiosk set up. Been waiting for a definite fix to make kiosk mode possible. Come on Oculus!!!

It's here somewhere. Somebody's talked about it.  But were you able to achieve kiosk mode? Can you tell in detail how you did it? Was it before or after the update?

You have to hard reset your device:
    1. Turn off your Oculus Go.
    2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
    3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
Confirm and then follow the instruction to set up your Oculus Go.

You can try this video player on the store now, which can act like a kiosk mode. No need to have a controller, just let the video play and then when you pass the headset to someone else it restarts the video.

What prevents it from going to standby and killing the app after some time?

Based on the name of the software "Oculus Go Kiosk Mode", and the package that it installs ".APK" I'm going to assume it does not support Rift. But on the other hand that's a good request.

I have just installed the KioskMode on a headset with the newest update (159390.2710.0). It was working like it should. Also this new "Auto Sleep" feature is compatible with our solution. You can now skip the first button press most of the time! (Except after a reboot or short power button press).

No it is only working with the OculusGo.

Hi, I installed the KioskMode app, it seems to be working fine, but - as other users in this forum - when the Oculus button is pressed I get a black screen that turns off only afer exiting sleeping mode. So I can't use this mode, and of course I won't buy it, disabling the oculus button is the main (only ?) interest of a kiosk mode... Any idea ?

I have had the kiosk mode working for the last 2 weeks.
Today we had to deploy to several new devices and the kiosk mode now does not work with any of them, including the original test device. Well, Kiosk mode works (i can see the watermark on the demo version and the buttons work) but my app no longer starts (and I can't get anywhere to start it).
My thoughts are that there was a software update recently that may have stopped this, which would explain why it only started to happen once the new devices were turned on and synched to the phone app. I did notice a new screen asking permission for Kiosk to appear over other apps when it did start though.

Can confirm, the kiosk mode implementation by tweaklab is now broken on our end aswell. If anyone has it working after
3.55 update, please let us now here?

Oculus would you PLEASE consider adding some kind of native implementation of kiosk mode? If anyone is looking for an alternativ quick fix: HTC Vive Focus has this feature built in...

Some of my projects involving Oculus Go hardware are massively impaired by not having a reliable kiosk mode: holding back revenue and opportunities for me and my business and also bulk orders for more headsets from Oculus on behalf of these clients. Including museums and hospitals who use VR in situations where accidentally exiting into the Oculus OS is absolutely detrimental to the customer experience.

Some devices still have issues with the Oculus update 3.55 and our KioskMode. We are working on a bugfix. Until we have a new update, please try to prevent any automatic update and do not connect your devices with the Internet. @oculus would be nice to get informed about updates.
