Unity/android VR sim has REALLY LOW resolution on the Oculus GO

I used Unity 2018 to create my first (for the GO) sim  and my first android apk ever. I followed the following tut:
I actually got it to work, but the resolution and latency was awful. at least half of what would be passable. I tested the same Unity scene on just the regular Oculus Rift and it was much better. Does anyone have any ideas? I haven't tried to make a sim for android before and am shocked at the convoluted nature of it. Rift and Vive development is a cakewalk compared to all the hoops you have to jump through for VR on an android device. VR development for android could really use some streamlining.
