    50% faster would mean 30 -> 45 fps.

@cybereality - Looking at a Geforce 1080Ti v Geforce 1080, I see that in most games are about 15 to 20 FPS faster on the Geforce 1080 Ti. This mean the Geforce 2080 Ti, it isn't much better then a Geforce 1080Ti?

The way my maths work as I have a 1080 is = a 1080ti is 25% faster than a 1080 and a 2080ti is 50% faster than a 1080.  So games on the 1080 to 1080ti with 30fps will give you 42.5 fps and the 1080 to 2080ti will give a 30 fps game a boost of 15 = 45 fps. That sound about right ??? Or if the 2080ti is 50% faster than a 1080ti that should give a boost of 22.5 fps to games........ :# i think I'll go back to school lol

@Techy111 - Well looking at this Youtube vidoes makes me think a 2080Ti, isn't much better then a Geforce 1080Ti. Just look at the FPS between a Geforce 1080 and the Geforce 1080Ti in this video? Percentage wise, how much quicker is a Geforce 2080Ti over a Gefoce 1080Ti? Is it about 8% at a guess?

    @RedRizla from the interweb =

While we certainly expect the RTX 2080 Ti to be faster than its predecessors, the real question is by just how much. From what we've seen on stage, it appears that games will have to be optimized to take advantage of the RTX capabilities. So far, that includestitles like Shadow of the Tomb RaiderPlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Final Fantaxy XV. That's really the reason you'd shell out for a card like this. For this price range, you'd want a bigger upgrade than just a slightly higher frame rate.

This has made me think I'll just upgrade my 1080 to a cheap 1080ti for a few months/years, what do you reckon ?

    2080ti
    4352 Cuda Cores
    616 GB/s

    1080
    2560 Cuda Cores
    320 GB/s

Not sure how this works with games, but I use my 1080 for work, for both rendering and fluid/vfx dynamics calculations, they rely heavily on memory bandwidth and CUDA cores, upgrading to the 2080Ti will give me almost 1x or (100% +/-?) performance increase by looking at the raw numbers, and that is a HUGE deal for me ... cutting render time by 30% saves me days .. an almost 100% will be amazing. (I hope I am calculating that right lol)

I'd like to see the comparison in vr LZ, with a 1080ti v 2080ti when this happens then hopefully I'll get excited.  But after the price reveal yesterday I feel a bit deflated. Shopping around I can get a brand spanking new 1080ti for 535 quid

Agree with that Techy, the fact that they only specified ray-trace performance improvement over previous technology and their insistence on using GigaRays/sec as the new metric seemed to be a huge omission in yesterdays keynote.

Ray tracing will be great but they could have used 5 minutes of yesterdays 1 hr 50 minute keynote to state the cards conventional performance comparisons with the 10 series. Did they mention GFLOPS at all?

Well anyway according to Techpowerup 1080 Ti performance is:

    Pixel Rate                               139.2 GPixel/s
    Texture Rate                           354.4 GTexel/s
    FP16 (half) performance        177.2 GFLOPS (1:64)
    FP32 (float) performance       11,340 GFLOPS
    FP64 (double) performance    354.4 GFLOPS (1:32)

    and 2080 Ti:
    Pixel Rate                               136.0 GPixel/s   (7% decrease)
    Texture Rate                           420.2 GTexel/s  (18.6% increase)
    FP16 (half) performance         210.1 GFLOPS  (1:64)  (18.6% increase)
    FP32 (float) performance       13,448 GFLOPS  (18.6% increase)
    FP64 (double) performance   420.2 GFLOPS (1:32)  (18.6% increase)

That seems to me to be a pretty conventional series to series improvement for non-RTX games but we're paying for the ray tracing. The problem is I don't think we know how well RTX games will perform in VR, I have a feeling it'll be asking too much and the real benefit of these cards, despite the VR sell, will be to monitor gamers wanting that big improvement in realism.

@Techy111 - I reckon it would be a good idea. The 2080Ti looks like it's more about RayTracing then anything else and I'm not that impressed by it, certainly not for the price it costs. The room he shows in that video is also bollocks, I've played games and rooms don't look that light in horror games. These rooms are done much better then what he was trying to demonstrate without RayTracing. He was just showing that room at it's worst. Devs do a much better job then what he was showing in that room lol. The guy on stage also didn't want to talk performance FPS, because it's not that much better then a Geforce 1080Ti.

I'll be getting a 1080Ti for Cv2. That's until these ridiculous prices come down for the Geforce 2080Ti. That's why it wasn't released 6 to 8 months later, so they could slap an extra $300 plus on it.

thanks...... not gonna risk 2nd hand off an unknown source. shame the other one put their prices up.. no coincidence it is after the reveal yesterday.

the scan one at £630 but with the destiny bundle and EVGA link dongle thing is still the best deal right now i can see imo.

Let me know when you sell it and I might consider selling my Geforce 1080 - j/k. I'm in no rush to sell my Geforce 1080, because it plays all the VR games and I can max out setting using my 2D 1080p screen. I'll purchhase a Geforce 1080Ti when CV2 arrives..

That is not quite what he was demonstrating with the room, a single light source from outside illuminated the rest of the room with RTX, yes you CAN fake this by "baking" the lighting, meaning you just render it on top of the texture, but this means it's STATIC, so if you move the sun outside, the inside will not change, or if you move the table or the chair, it all breaks.

ATM, if you look at those insane unreal engine architectural demos,

Image result for unreal engine architecture

All the lighting in those is BAKED, meaning you cannot change the time of day, or move anything, as the light is part of the texture. With RTX, you can move the sun or objects anywhere which is a huge deal.

I think a lot of gamers are suffering from the MP3 phenomenon, it's good enough at 128kps, why would anyone want higher fidelity, I can't hear the difference !! :)

Yeah i think people who go from a 1080 will be kicking themselves in 12 months when they really want an upgrade.  A 1080 might well be fine for the CV2 to be honest.

Yeah that is baked, the light outside cannot move, also any moveable object in that game stands out a bit, they used Photogrammetry for a lot of the environments, taking photos of real rooms and places, hence it looks like that.

But RE had a huge budget, imagine an indie trying to achieve this.

Yep, I can't tell the difference at all. If it's baked I assume any moving objects in that room would have stand-out poor shadows/lighting in comparison?
