The Last Day Defense (Free VR Tower Defense game)

If you enjoy Tower Defense experiences, then I highly recommend this one. It is 100% free on the Oculus Store, and while it is a bit rough around the edges (the menu system isn't a AAA experience), once the action starts it is quite addictive.

For anyone interested, take a look at this gameplay video from @ParadiseDecay

This game has a near perfect rating on the Oculus Store:

Again, this is not a AAA title. It feels Early Access. But it still manages to have a huge addiction factor and is incredibly challenging on Hard difficulty (and above).

    The detail level is awesome!
Have you found the piano inside one of the houses? :)
You could bring the table up to eyes level (you need to change key settings to do this) and then it is easy to see details around and inside houses. It is sliced when you move your head inside one.

If you do not like tower defense games just switch to easy (relax) mode and go through all levels. They are cool. The most to the end. Oceans, volcano, snow, fire, lightnings.

ooh I need to replay this on easy mode after I'm done with Hard mode, so that I can enjoy the detail in all the levels. Right now I'm 15 hours in on Hard mode and getting my arsed kicked! I'm more than half-way to the end, and loving every minute of it. The levels where they attack from Land, Sea, and Air are my favorite. This is easily the best Tower Defense game I've ever played!

I like the way this game could give you a surprise.
Have you tried volcano? It is great WTF level
And UFO's appearing inside your territory are fun.

It's easy to miss this on easy level, but if you are not defending from air strike you will be actually bombed from the air. It's fun that your towers could be bombed or disabled if you will not pay attention.

Yeah I made it past the Volcano level. I was angry when I realized that the volcano can actually destroy my own towers! lol

I made it through all of the pure Sea battles, and I'm back on land. But the map I'm on has tanks that spawn with force field domes protecting entire enemy groups from attack. I can't get passed it!

    You are cool! :)
    Never had 1st or near.
But I have not played on Hard.
But the map I'm on has tanks that spawn with force field domes protecting entire enemy groups from attack.
Lasers are great to take them down. They should be powerful enough.
But you need to sacrifice some low level towers for "mind controller" tanks :)
And powerful shockers are useful  to stop fast ones.

It's great you need to try all types of towers in this game. Some levels are good for rockets, some for lasers. And you can't solve it with other tower type. Actually it feels like a puzzle game on hard levels.
So you could not select "the only tower type you like" for all :)
Upgrades are great too. You need not balanced tower most of the time. For air defense it is one artillery tower with 1 "range" upgrade and all others to "power". And it should be hidden from ground force shots. This way you need not upgrade "shields".

What are your hints and tricks?

ps. Hey! Where is @snowdog ? There are ufos there!

I actually find a combo of Machine Gun Turret + Lazer Turret to be a very powerful combination when they are close to each other. And then Rocket Turrets close behind. I can usually maintain a frontal defense this way, and the areas farthest back are good for the anti-tank artillery and anti-air.

However, this combo which has served me well (I have Flawless Victories on most maps, Hard difficulty) is no longer working on the force field maps! lol

So yeah, they out-maneuvered me. This is more than just a Tower Defense game (you are correct!); this feels like a damn chess match. They have long range anti-artillery tanks, disabling tanks, AND force field tanks. With this evil combo, the enemy pretty much walks through my entire damn map unharmed. I guess I need to try to go full Lazer technology. FML

Lasers are slow. So put all upgrades to power and cover them with shock tower (defended and powerful).
Some maps will not allow you to defend frontal only. Even on easy mode. :)
So I had to put some on front but same time a laser at back exit. Or 1-2 will escape on level start.
And you have not enough money for artillery at first.
Low level 3rd tower is good, you could change it to anti-air fast enough when needed.

Okay... finally beat "Raging Thunder" on hard mode!

The higher levels seem to be more about the Napalm Towers + Lazer combo's. I put Napalm up front and lazer along the paths. Works beautifully. I beat the level after "Raging Thunder" with a perfect score (Hard Mode) using this tactic. I didn't even need the slowing Shock Towers.

You could skip that info and just start playing :)
Select easy mode (leftmost) and start.

    Cool!
I can't beat it on hard. I passed 6/8 waves max.
Great idea about Napalm Tower. Never used them. They have after burning feature and that is saving tower firing time?
I'm starting from 2 lasers + shock. But It helps for first waves only.
How many towers did you have? I thought it is better to have lots of them with small level upgrades (not enough money for all). You are constantly under rocket attack, so splitting targets should work.

This level is hard to beat even on easy mode :)
And you should use different strategies for easy and hard mode.

Napalm Towers raises the heat level of the enemies, and they start to take double-damage from both fire and lazer. So I will have 1 or 2 Napalm Towers up front, and 3-4 lazers in the back. It destroys everything quite well due to the double-damage bonus!
