Resolution Explained

Can some explain how VR resolution works?

The original rift is 2160 × 1200 total resolution and 1080 x 1200 per eye.

Am I being stupid or missing something silly but wouldn't 1080 x 1200 per eye = 2160 x 2400 total resolution?

You don't have 4 eyes arranged in a 2x2 grid (well, I don't want to make assumptions).
If you put a 1080x1200 screen next to a 1080x1200 screen, you get 2160x1200.

(Of course most of that is part of the stereo overlap, so you don't really see 2160 across)

Well, you're either being stupid or 1+1 really is 4 and everyone else is being stupid. 🙂

A good accountant would say 1+1= what do you want it to be, lol!

This, The 2nd number is the Vertical pixel number and you have two screens next to each other horizontally so the horizotal number doubles but vertical stays the same. You would need 2 more screens on top vertically to make a 2x2 grid to increase the 2nd number. (using the screen from OP's example anyway) There's a wordy description. Hopefully one of the two gets you sorted lol.
