A reminder to you all as we approach release of a new version of Medium:

(Original announcement here: https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/43848/oculus-medium-releases-updates/p8

We’re continuously working to improve Oculus Medium and it’s core sculpting features. Sometimes, that means getting rid of features.

Soon, we’ll be releasing a new version of Medium with new features and improvements and will be de deprecating some features that, based on our analytics, are less utilized by you. We’re letting you know now so you have time to adapt your habits or back up your files.

What’s Changing?

  • Share-to-Web ("My Gallery" on oculus.com/medium): You’ll no longer be able to share your sculpts to your Gallery on our website. If you have sculpts stored on our website and want them for future reference, please download your sculpts and full resolution OBJ’s.

  • Share-to-Facebook Feed: You will no longer be able to share your sculpt as a 3D Post on Facebook.

  • The Learn page (oculus.com/medium/learn): All Tutorials live on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCchTxH0v_ZR1I9IVvXeev-Q
You’ll no longer be able to download Tutorials to follow along in VR.

  • VR Recordings: You’ll no longer be able to record your sculpting sessions in 3D. 2D Video Recording and Photos will persist. If you want to keep VR Recordings, please use a 2D Video recorder to capture it.

  • Newsfeed: We are removing the in-app Newsfeed items

  • Featured Artists on our website: We’re removing this portion of our website.

These features require consistent web engineering maintenance and have low usage rates. As we gear up for our next release in a few months, we want to focus our time to improve Medium for the workflow and pipeline.

FAQ:

Q: I’m unable to download the sculpts saved to My Gallery. Where did they go?

A: Unfortunately, some older assets were deleted over time for reasons that are not immediately clear to us. We apologize if you lost a sculpt for which you have no other copy.

Q: Does 3D Posts still work?

A: Existing 3D Posts still work, but a more viable - and better supported - 3D format on the Facebook feed are 3D Photos. We're not scheduled yet to support that pipeline. See more information about 3D Photos here: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1757729227689232

Q: I still want to watch 2D videos while in VR. How do I do that?

A: You can watch 2D videos while in VR through Dash! To open or close Dash, select the Oculus button on your right Touch controller while you're in VR. From here you'll have access to the Dash belt, including Oculus Desktop: https://support.oculus.com/166993604065478/

This is a good move, most artists share their work to their own portfolios like Behance etc.
Slimming these down was a good choice so you can focus more on core functionality! :)
    Core i7-7700k @ 4.9 Ghz | 32 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance @ 3000Mhz | 2x 1TB Samsung Evo | 2x 4GB WD Black
ASUS MAXIMUS IX HERO | MSI AERO GTX 1080 OC @ 2000Mhz | Corsair Carbide Series 400C White (RGB FTW!)

Be kind to one another :)

Does this mean the sculpts from 'my gallery' will be deleted? I don't have a headset till I get my S, and when I try to download to medium it says it will download next time medium is running, yet I can't run it without a headset. There's also no OBJ option.

Hi jayhawk, yes, unfortunately that is the case.

the record VR was really amazing! Why don't keep it and warn the user that it is slowing down the execution or that there is a risk of beug, but at least it allows to keep it for others

Thanks for the kind words on VR Recordings! Glad you enjoyed it! Unfortunately we can't support doing that. We don't want to ship half-hearted features and require consistent web engineering maintenance. Instead, we've focused our small team to work on making Medium better for the workflow and pipeline!

Are yall adding auto save yet?
Todays my first day using the app. Got two hours into a sculpt, then my blocks power surged. All the progress is lost as far as im aware. All ive been able to find is this thread: https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/60481/recovery-of-lost-sculpt-after-medium-crashes
Shows yall have been working on it for atleast a year and a half now. Whats up?

Sorry, @LethalDumpster. We originally planned to work on auto-save last year, but it eventually got backburnered as we decided to work towards making the experience more stable over all. We don't have any plans to create the feature at the moment, but it's not out of the question.
