Quest: Screen casting not working (Samsung Galaxy S9 / Nvidia Shield)

Wasn't successful getting this to work. Headset is connected to the app, all green. TV, Smartphone and Quest are all connected to the same WiFi.

First, I tried to cast to my Nvidia Shield (nothing happened). According to the app there should be some sort of confirmation screen in the headset, which isn't the case.

Same when trying to cast to the phone itself (Samsung Galaxy S9, Android Pie).

So I tried it the other way around and started sharing from inside the headset. Same thing, nothing happens on the phone. Except one time, where I just got a black screen.

Did this work for anyone?

BTW: Would be great if you could alternatively stream directly to the phone (WiFi Direct). So you could share someone's experience if you are not at home. Currently, it's not possible to assist someone without being connected to an external WiFi.

Update: Rebootet Quest, now I get at least a notification on the phone as soon as I start streaming from inside the headset. But I only receive a black screen and then the connection breaks after about 4 seconds.

I too was unable to cast to my Shield.  I had no trouble seeing the "Do you want to allow casting?" request in the headset, but after selecting "Allow", nothing happens and an error pops on the phone.  I opened a ticket.

I haven't tried casting to my phone.

For the record, also unable to cast to Huawei Honor 6x. It works, briefly, and then locks up the phone app.

OK, I try with a iPad and it works. So, it's a issue with the Oculus android App I guess.... we need a update !

Galaxy S9 here. Casting from the Quest to the phone worked perfectly fine for me last night. Haven't tried casting to our Chromecast yet though.

Works for me! I use my Galaxy S9+ and am able to cast to two of my Shield TVs with no issues (only ones I've tested so far). I of course initiate the cast from within the Oculus app on my phone and I do receive the confirmation screen to allow it in the Quest.

Also, for the purpose of this response, I tested casting from within the Quest to my S9+ and it worked with no issues.

So I can at least confirm it does indeed work! Doubt I can be of any help as to why it's not working for others with the same devices though.

Works on my Shield too. Casing on my Huawei directly results into a freeze after 4 Seconds. Same with the GO.

Same here. Casting to Huawei P Smart.  Screen appears but everything freezes and stays like that.

Edit: Both devices sitting in an 'old' 2.4ghz network. Could this be the issue?

No, same on my 5GHz Wlan.

Maybe it's a Oculus <> Huawei phone issue? My Huawei P10 is getting frozen casting after a few seconds too.

I have the same issue on Quest and Huawei P20. Cast freezes after 5 seconds and cannot be re-established unless I restart the Oculus app.

Facebook and Huawei - they are both fighting over who can steal your data the most    :D

A friend told me to switch from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz Wifi. I use Huawei P20. It seemed better, but then still froze after 15 seconds. He uses a different Android phone, and he has no problem casting.
I have heard that Huawei phones have issues like this before, so maybe we can ask the development team to focus on Huawei <-> Ocolus Quest and find a solution.

Happens on my quest and Huawei P30. I am guessing that Facebook and Huawei are not going to sort this out. Especially after Trumps latest block on Huewai phones.

Any update, or someone who found more info on this?
Im on a Huawei P20 Pro - casting starts and works for around 4 seconds then freezes.

First i were worried that my Quest were faulty, but after reading some of the posts it seams like it is not broken atleast

It must definitely be some problem with Android. Tried it with an iPhone 7 in the same network and it worked (quality and framerate was not good, though).

EDIT: It's Blokada (Ad-Blocker VPN!). Casting works when deactivating it. Putting the Oculus App on the Whitelist had no effect!

    Hi All,

I have managed to cast to S9+ and android tablet without issues.
The Chromecast would not connect initially but I then managed it successfully.
For 2 days now I am now unable to connect again to the Chromecast, no option to connect, only phone  :/

I can cast to the Shield without problems. Tried it with the You Tube VR App on the Quest.

I have Huawei P20 Pro and casting freezes after 4-5 seconds. I tested casting on LG V30 and it works, no problem. So I think its and Huawei issue sadly. Hope that there will be a fix soon.
