Why don't I need my reading glasses?

I mean... I'm glad that I don't. I'm just surprised.

I'm 48, so (even though my distance vision is still really good) I can't read anything unless it's close to a full arm's length away from my face. Yet, despite the monitors being so close to my face, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to read all the texts, and clearly, on any of the screens.

Does anyone know why this is the case?

The focal distance of the lenses is about 1.5 m (5'), so if you can see clearly at that distance, you should be able to see well in VR.

Because the lenses simulate a focal distance of about 1-1.5 m (so your eyes are focusing on a plane 1 to 1.5 meters away)

I have glasses for beyond arms length plus stronger reading glasses for reading and computer use. Strangely, my vision is clearer *without* my glasses whenever I use my Rift??!!

I have bifocals, as well as separate pairs for single prescriptions for nearsighted and farsighted...depending on what I'm doing, such as watching television, or going to a sporting event. No need for bifocals in those situations. But with VR, I still need my farsighted prescription..ie: lenses to see things close up to me. Without them, I can't even read at arm's length. I can see and read everything in VR without them, but everything's so much clearer with them, and the whole experience is more enjoyable. The only downside to using them in VR, is I see the screen door effect. Without them, even the Rift CV1 looks better. :P
