Has anyone tried and been successful in using the Oculus Link on the iMac's USB-C Port W/o an E-GPU?

I've been trying to get my girlfriend a VR Headset but because she owns a iMac Pro 2017 '27, we wanted to see if a Quest would work as the Mac has a USB-C port. I see no reason not to try to utilize her Mac's hardware, only if it can be done.
