Very Quiet.....

Anonymous

Hmmm it's all gone very quiet here...

Has all there has to be discussed been discussed?

Have we all run out of ideas??

Or are we resigned to the fact that we pretty much won't get anything out of Oculus until September?

It's not just Oculus... the entire VR industry has gone quiet... there is little to no news of any consequence...

Quiet before the Storm? :ugeek:

i've been thinking this exact same thing for a few months now. i keep browsing these forums to try and find something interesting, but all i find are questions about bugs. Not just in these forums, but all over the net, it seems OR talk has been dropped.
i will say that, ever since the FB takeover, Palmer and team have been VERY quiet. is it all the competition that has sprung up? or has Palmer hit the jackpot and lost interest in VR now that he is a billionaire? money does funny things to people....

the biggest problem are games (fov, and resolution can always be upgraded). VR won't be successful without great games to play with it. Elite is amazing, and Skyrim is phenomenal, but there needs to be more. games made with VR in mind. yet everything is so quiet. even the damn porn thread is flaccid..... is it the calm before the storm, or the hang over after the party? feels a lot like the later to me. i hope i'm wrong.

I vote we morph this thread into a VR Porn thread and at the same time start another new VR Porn thread so we have at least 4 open Porn threads on the 1st page.

Statistically that will anger 50% of the community to oppose them. Topics of morality and religion soon will explode all through the posts. A different group of idiots will wake up that consider themselves the guardians of all things oculus and inform us all exactly how many posts we have ever had on the topic and link us to some old re-hashes and BTW thanks for all your hard work wanna be moderators!

The other 50% will catch wind and come out swinging in support and go to war with everyone else trying to spat on their rights to free speech. The mods will start showing up and warning everyone to be nice.

The threads will finally be locked....

and then someone will post "Very Quiet...."

Trust me. This is definitely calm before the storm.
The serious devs are all hard at work putting a final polish on their stuff. The complainers have nothing new to bitch about. The same can be said for the speculators. We're closing in real fast on more reveal dates and ordering schedules. I think the rest of us are just...waiting.

DK2 is old news. The king is dead and the new king has yet to ascend the throne.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

I'm sorry but that's simply not true. Either you haven't been looking much or completely forgot about E3 last month in which we received an avalanche of news about Oculus. "Months" and you've found nothing interesting? Not Touch? Not the launch catalogue of games? The Oculus Story Studios stuff? Not the final design of the Rift? The built-in headphones? The debates over SDE and FOV in CV1 alone were a hot topic as of just a couple weeks ago. And there's been a steady flow of interviews with Palmer and Iribe every week since then. The news this week is that Oculus's first-party games (actually third party, but funded completely by them) will only run on the Rift. So there's that to talk about I suppose, but as pointed out by someone else, most of these discussions are had on Reddit. But come on, to ignore all the things that have happened and then use that to sling another diss at Palmer about the Facebook "takeover" is ridiculous. They've been anything BUT quiet ever since the Pre-E3 event.

Yeah, E3 postpartum I guess. Oculus and Sony blew their loads and HTC/Valve are crunching to make it out this year so we're hearing crickets. Gear VR is dead until the next iteration it seems, so there's nothing going on. I've actually managed to stop checking the forum and reddit all the time because of this. Kinda nice actually. I check maybe three times a day, tops. Much better than before and during E3.

On the plus side, things have been fairly civil. I haven't had to ban or warn anyone in a while.

If you need to ban some people during the exciting times, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. If someone's not saying something really stupid, it's just not a fun forum to be on. We need a big announcement bad in this joint.

yeah, I was expecting to hear some news on the Vive at least at GDC Europe next month but now HTC have stated we won't see Vive consumer version and launch lineup until October.
