[OLD] How To Provide Logs For Bug Reports (DK2 / Runtime 0.8)

cybereality

Hey all,

If you are reporting bugs with the Oculus runtime (or experiencing strange issues) and wish to submit a bug report, it will be very helpful to include the following logs with your post. In almost all cases, you will only need to provide the first two files (Config and OVRServer Logs). The exceptions and assertions will only be necessary if you are getting those particular popup error messages.

Config Log

The Config logs are useful only for configuration information. Using the OVRServer logs (described in another section) may result in more helpful information.

To get the Config logs, follow these steps:

  • Open up the Oculus Configuration Utility

  • Under Tools, select Advanced and then Diagnostic Log

  • Select the "Include Profile" and "Open Output" options

  • Click OK and a Debug Log Output should be generated

  • Click Select All and Copy, and then paste it into your favorite text editor

  • Save that off and attach it to your post

OVRServer Log

To get the OVRServer log, follow these steps:

  • Open up the Oculus Configuration Utility

  • Under Tools, select Service and then Configure

  • In the Configure Service dialog, select Errors and Info and click OK

  • The OVRServer log should then be created in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Oculus\ServerLog_<date>.txt

  • The "AppData" folder may be hidden by Windows. Make sure to check: "Show hidden files, folders and drives" in the "Folder and Search options."

  • Grab this text file and attach it to your post

Exception Logs & Minidumps

Both the Exception Logs and Minidumps appear in the dialog box, they are also accessible via text files that are generated.

To get Exception Logs and the Minidumps, follow these steps:

  • Run into an exception

  • Copy the text from the dialog box into another text file OR

  • Go to the two files that are generated:
    • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Oculus\<AppName>\Exception Report (<date>).txt

    • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Oculus\<AppName>\Exception Minidump (<date>).mdmp

  • Attach the reports to your post (the minidump may be large so using a file host is a good idea)

Assertion Failures

Assertion failures will appear in a popup dialog box at runtime.

To get the Assertion Failures, follow these steps:

  • Get an assert

  • See a dialog box appear

  • Copy and paste the text into a separate file and attach it to your post

Can you clarify "Attach it to your post"?
There is no attach button that I see anywhere.

You can either copy the text into a post (but please use the code tags) or upload as an attachment. The attachment box is under the post area (it says "upload attachment") but may not be visible to new users.

Sorry, I do not understand what it means

"1. Run into an exception"

Unfortunately I could only understand step 1

Thanks

An exception appears like a popup window that happens after your app crashes. It will say "An exception has occurred" which means there was a exception.

Now I understand. But does not open any window

Thanks

I'm having the same issues as most seem to have looking at recent topics with no detected HMD and just a extended screen, here's the log:
