Did you mean:

Rift, The Rift, F**k**g Oculus Rift

Anonymous
Not applicable
Whatever you call it, the powers that be want you to call it "Rift", personally I see that as a bit of an uphill struggle ( Oculus does seem to like to make life difficult for itself though) or like King Canute trying to hold back the tide..

Does anybody, sensible, refer to the Rift as anything other than "the Rift" ?

I think maybe that's because Oculus is an interesting and unusual sounding word and maybe it just sticks in people's brains better than Rift. I dunno, I'm only speculating. But yeah "Let me put on the Oculus" and such always makes me ROFL. Yeah, go ahead and put on that Oculus. Yeah, just like that baby. I love it when you put on the Oculus.

I agree, all of them work.

"The VR" and "The Oculus" never works.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

The problem is that it's been called the rift since the DK1.
Just refering to it as the Rift, could be DK1, DK2 or CV1.

This is why I now call the CV1..well..the CV1 lol

When I'm gaming and say "I'm in the Rift". I'm actually saying I'm in VR and using an Oculus product 😕

I'm an Oculus RIFT kind of guy.

Bit like saying Ford Mondeo, Or Logitech G290.

Most people haven't heard of Oculus or Rift TBH, and you end up saying virtual reality goggles. Then just say, "fuck it, just try them on" 😉

I do need to start showing people with disposable income though. Every one goes wow I need one of them, Then you tell them the price along with a P.C. that can run it and they start crying. Had my Sisters boyfriend nearly wetting himself with excitement last night playing Project cars

I can't tell you how many times I hyped up VR to friends/family, and to them it's just some dollar store gimmick, even once they actually use it they can't quite grasp the full scope of the technology involved to bring this to life, it's just a "toy". It's like they think I picked it up at the mall for 30 bucks or something. Honestly, it's almost insulting.

It's usually not until I start explaining the price of entry they start taking me more seriously, but they still think it's "just another goofy 3d glasses thing" and I'm just crazy for not waiting 6 months for the price to go down to reasonable levels.

Of course these aren't your normal tech-interested people, these are mostly just your run of the mill average idiots. You know the ones, they're the ones when you bought your fancy 42" 4k TV for 3 grand they told you you were ripped off because their 62 inch 1080p plasma TV was only $400. Some people are just absent minded I guess.

*sigh*
