Yes. Extension Cables DO work w/ CV1

Just because I was curious myself, I got some USB 3.0 and HDMI extension cables. I used them with both the sensor and the consumer headset. They're standard 10 foot passive cables. They seem to work with no problem. Cheers.

Confirmed, the above does NOT work.

Best results so far though:  It works for a little while blinks black for a sec and comes back.  It's ultimately not usable though.  The Rift keeps "unplugging/replugging".

Very frustrating.  My computer is situated well back from my play space so half my cable is eaten up before it becomes useful.

@Cyber:  Any plans for Oculus to sell an approved and working extension?

@Cybereality Maybe Oculus should do some QC and come out with Oculus branded and approved extension cables.

Or you could be really awesome and bundle them with the Touch - which is what I figure will happen since it would silence the room-scale debate and cost very little.  🙂

For those interested, I've tested the Vanco and Wbox (no, not Xbox) 4K HDMI (over single Cat5) extension and it works beautifully.  I have a 100 foot Cat6 cable run into the other room and I have NO issues!

I'm currently successfully using these to extend USB 3.0 to the CV1, CV1 sensor and phantom Touch sensor (from the Intel USB 3.0 ports on an Asus P8-Z77v Deluxe motherboard):

10' Cable Matters SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Type A Male to Female Extension Cable in Black 10 Feet

I'm also using this to extend the HDMI from an EVGA HydroCopper Titan X:

10' Cable Matters High Speed HDMI Extension Cable with Ethernet 10 Feet - 3D and 4K Resolution Ready

Extending USB to the one sensor really isn't needed at this point, as it's sitting on my desk.  Looking forward, I want the length of USB cabling to be the same for both sensors though (I plan to eventually put them in opposing corners), as I was concerned about possible issues from mismatched cable lengths.

The cables I recommended in this thread should work. I've been using them for months without issue. See here:

I think we're successfully using the same cables, your URLs are just much, much cleaner.

Aight, lemme give those a try.  I'll circle back.

So, here were the cables used if anyone is interested.

Even though Rift uses HDMI 1.3, it's probably safer to get the 1.4 (4K/3D compatible) cables.

The extension cables were 10 feet each. The headset cable is supposed to be 4 meters (I didn't measure, but sounds right), so total length of the main cable is probably around 22 feet after extension. I'm not actually sure how long the sensor cable is. It may be slightly shorter but enough to place anywhere on an average desk without extension.

Yes, I do recall there being some problems with extension cables and DK2, but I'll keep testing on the setup and report back if there are any issues.

I'm not sure if hubs would work, as they may be bandwidth limited.

This is not working for me. The USB cable works fine but the HDMI does not work. I'm using a 980ti. When I use the 10 foot extender cable the display is black. Would an HDMI repeater fix this?

I just hooked up a 6ft HDMI extender and it works perfectly. Apparently the 10 foot cable is to much. I just ordered this repeater. I'll report back if it works.

Out of curiosity, how many monitors do you have coming off your graphics card? (including the Rift)  Are any 120/144hz or 4k?
