Would you buy a wireless add on for the CV1?

I know there is a lot of talk about the Wireless add on for the Vive. (Not a Valve product, it's a company in China) I think the added latency and the low battery life (They claim 90 minutes) are some hold backs, but ultimately it is exciting - I think it will push demand for wireless high end VR further and is a good thing.

If that company, or another, or even Oculus released a similar product for the CV1 Rift roughly in the same price range around $220 would you buy it?

Another question - it seems like a push for high end wireless VR is going strong, and accelerating faster then many of us may have estimated, If we start to see Wireless headsets show up from Vive, Fove, and others in the next year or two should we expect the same thing from Oculus, could the CV2 possibly be wireless?

That might seem like a long shot - but I love to think about it.

I know we have discussed what is better trade off - wireless or improved resolution, FOV etc.

Is wireless the next big thing in VR?

Yes. But it has to be a legit quality product. Not some fly by night untested Chinese gear.

@Zenbane

and dont get me started on Wireless Charging... ugh such a waste of energy. ... ok maybe Nicola Tesla hoped one day this would be a possibility. But at the moment it feels like a gimmick and completely unnecessary. Its just so wasteful.

This.. this... this

After spending a great proportion of my engineering life adopting new lighting and power tech in order to reduce power use on a finite supply network (London Underground), it frustrates the heck out of me when I see things like wireless charging being added to an already lossy system (i.e. battery storage) and proposed for so many gadgets.

Also, LZ can you explain to my sister why her hot tub is destroying the planet? she thinks I'm being annoying.

many thanks

@DaftnDirect I would have thought the laws of thermodynamics speak for themselves ...

Tell her that trying to maintain a preset temperature of water that is also energised by jets (which adds to heat-loss) in an environment as unpredictable and as temperate as UK weather is .......

wait ... just say that every time she uses it a puppy drowns

Wireless on my rift would make my vr porn work better.  Right now I use a real doll and as I sling her around the room she trips up wires. 90 minutes is more than I can use.  Even with viagra, 2 minutes is all I can take from real doll.

Wireless would let me walk around the bridge of my Python without tangling the rift cable on my chair. So I'm in.

A year ago I was expecting to buy a third party wireless box as soon as it came out.

Now that I've managed the cable management through a pair of clothes lines (dog leashes might be a better choice), I simply have no good reason to downgrade my experience to a 90 min battery lifespan through a ~220$ purchase.

Unless you have no ceiling or something, I suggest you go read about and try out ceiling height cable management first.

Let's assume that a proposed wireless kit would work flawlessly, no loss in performance compared to wired.  And let's assume money was no object, and the battery was adequate for any reasonable-length session of use, etc. etc. etc. ....

I personally still wouldn't be interested, because the cable doesn't get in the way enough during Seated and Standing VR experiences for me to need to ditch it... and I didn't buy a Rift for Room-Scale.

I'd be far more interested in VR accessories that enhance seated and standing experiences.
