Samsung S7 and new Gear VR controller won't pair.

Just received my gear controller today, but I can't pair with my S7 phone.  Bluetooth settings show Gear VR Controller there but not paired.  Per the Gear VR setup, I go to the Oculus App/Setup/Controller.  It brings up a message,  "To Support your Gear VR Controller we need to install additional software."  Click 'Update Now', I click update and it returns a msg.,   "All required applications are already installed. Insert your device into you Gear VR to start using it'.   I click OK, but before I can hit the "Pair" button the screen goes away.

Just got my controller, exact same issue, any resolution yet?

Try removing all Bluetooth devices from the list in your phone first. It's possible you have another device (like headphones) that are conflicting with the controller.

Thanks for the quick reply - I just removed the only other paired device (Amazon Echo - wasn't actually connected at the time) - still having the issue. The messages referenced above pop up as soon as I hit controller under settings.  Auto updates is on in Oculus App, and I can't find anything else that would need to be updated.

I'm having the identical issue with my Note 4/Innovator Edition Gear VR. I opened a new thread:

https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/53045/any-fix-for-inability-of-new-samsung-controller...

Quote:

"bjricha said it comprehensibly and succinctly, a couple of days ago, here:

And, I quote that poster (symptoms are the same, except I'm using a Note 4, not an S7):

"Just received my gear controller today, but I can't pair with my S7 phone. Bluetooth settings show Gear VR Controller there but not paired. Per the Gear VR setup, I go to the Oculus App/Setup/Controller. It brings up a message, "To Support your Gear VR Controller we need to install additional software." I click OK, but before I can hit the "Pair" button the screen goes away. "

There are others having this identical issue, both in bjricha's post and elsewhere, e.g. Samsung's own forums, and I think maybe XDA, can't remember.

I tried to follow a Staff poster's advice in the bjricha post, and open a Support Ticket, but can't see how to do that in the Support Ssection. Any practical and real fix or advice would be appreciated! I assume there are others out there, too, just waiting..."

I'm really sorry, I don't believe Note 4 is supported. See here:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/virtual-reality/gear-vr/vr-controller-et-yo324bbegus/
Compatible with the following Samsung Galaxy smartphones: USB Type-C: Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+; microUSB: Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, and Galaxy S6 edge+. Galaxy smartphone sold separately.

Hello,

Had the exact same issue. Uninstall the Oculus app, insert the phone into the Gear VR to reinstall, worked for me.

Don't try to pair the controller from the phone's bluetooth menu, pairing will be done from the Oculus app.
