Here's mine...

I'm a huge fan of The Metal but I think I'll start with some of my legendary, less angry, favorites.

Probably my favorite band of all time across all genres is Primus. I've seen them live twice, and I've seen Les Claypool live in his solo act once.

It all started with "Jerry was a Race car driver"

For those who don't know Les, fun fact: he once audition for Metallica and they denied him based solely on the fact that he is far too damn good for them.

I've seen tons of bands live (Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Korn, System of a Down, Pantera, Slipknot, Lamb of God - to name a few). But Primus is the band that showed me first hand the largest mosh pit I've ever seen, and it was to this mighty cute song:

A few thousand people went ape shit at the 1:37 mark.

I hold in high regard just about everything Claypool releases; if I had to pick a favorite song it is simply, Here Come The Bastards

I'm a Metalhead as well, mostly into Melodeath/Groove/Thrash these days and kind of shocked that someone listed Parasite Inc. in here. I've been waiting for the follow up to Time Tears Down since that album dropped. One of the best debuts for me in years. Lots of good stuff in this thread though that I like, Machinehead, Death Angel, Parasite Inc, Rob Zombie, Rammstein, Slayer, Deathklok, Cannibal corpse etc.

Well, with the decent amount of metal heads around, can anyone point me towards something that can remotely scratch my Pantera need..  I simply CAN NOT tire of their albums, and while Down is a very decent act, it's too much bluesy rock to be a replacement, even though Phil does a good job.

I'm an old dog, who's probably unaware of newcomers carrying the spiritual Pantera torch...    suggestions?

Machine Head's earlier albums were pretty Pantera-ish. Throwdown is another and also the defunct Pissing Razors. There's also a few younger bands in that vein like Sons of Texas, A Perfect Murder & The Sign of the Southern Cross .  There's also Exhorder who a lot of people think Pantera got their sound from. I can't really point to a single band that's carrying the spiritual Pantera Torch though. A lot of people would say Lamb of God but not sure I agree.

Yea, I like em. The singer sounds a lot like a young Anselmo. Interestingly enough with the timing of this thread, they're actually on tour right now with Vinnie Paul's band Hell Yeah right now heh.

And I'm next door in Louisiana where Phil's from.   :#

Wow! I guess we are all just a pile of metal heads here. So I thought I would throw in my two cents. I grew up with Ozzy, Megadeth and Metallica and was lucky enough to be a teen during Grunge era listening to Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Blind Melon and many other great bands.

Today, still loving me some Rob Zombie (this with a little Primus twist since that's how Zenbane started the thread)
