HTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strap: dont get it Wet

Funny read about HTC's new "Deluxe" strap:

http://www.revvrstudios.com/never-get-wet
I left my VR Dungeon and rejoined my family, I noticed some black
‘stuff’ on my shoulders and in my very sweaty hair. I just assumed that
I had brushed up against something in my garage on the way back to the
living room.

I was wrong.

This morning, I had to grab a few items from my VR Dungeon and I
noticed abrasions on the padding of my Vive deluxe strap. Uh oh. Another
quick trip to Twitter confirmed that I wasn’t the only one who noticed
this.

The fact that NOBODY noticed this, is probably a bad thing. I feel like
if I ripped this padding off (it IS completely replaceable) and tossed
it into a glass of water, it would dissolve surprisingly quick. Not the
best material to stick on a part of the body that loves to sweat.

Pretty funny that the makers of the Gadget of the Year, whose gadget revolves around standing room-scale experiences which does lead to sweat far more than sit-down experiences, didn't test their "deluxe" strap's ability to... get wet 😄

You spending money to get a Rift-like experience..?

You should have just bought a Rift instead tbh because you'll need to spend even MORE money when the Knuckles controllers are released. Even if the Knuckles controllers are only $99 (and I personally think they'll be twice that) you'll end up spending $1000 to get a Rift-like experience for your Vive but without the benefits of a sharper and clearer display, less SDE, better performance in games and experiences thanks to ASW and having a headset that looks like a final consumer ready product rather than a dev kit lol

You should have just sold your Vive and got a Rift and Touch controllers for $600 😛

I think you're deluding yourself @snowdog.

For one the Knuckles are better than the Touch. The Knuckles track all five fingers and allows you to go hands free which will give you far more emmersion with games like 'The Climb' and 'Lone Echo'.

With thr Knuckles doing the hands the Wands are free to become body trackers or object trackers like the pucks. The Rift so far has shown nothing in this regard. Yes the DAS was extra and the Knuckles are extra but combined with the new base stations Vive is going to give an unrivalled experience that Rift can't match.

Actually, Oculus has added support for additional Touch controllers as tracked objects (primarily for tracking a camera for mixed reality recording). For the price of a single Vive tracker, you can get two extra Touch controllers and an extra sensor.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

The Knuckles track all five fingers

Ill admit that i am jelous of this feature.
All the half finished indie tech demos that ill be missing out on that use this feature really make me regret saving hundreds on a rift.
This is my forum signature.
There are many others like it, but this is mine.

What's better is still subjective. Hands free actually detracts from immersion when you are holding something within VR such as a pistol. I'm sure eventually tracking all fingers will be the future of VR. However, there really isn't much of a functional need for it...yet IMO. Having used a Leap Motion, it's cool to see all your fingers respond in real time, but it's more of a display then function.

The Knuckles are going to sound great to someone with Vive wands, but no so much to someone who already has Touch. If there was a market for tracking all fingers, you can bet Oculus is working on it.

The only reason the Vive Knuckles track all five fingers is for medical purposes, not because of anything meaningful in relation to gaming  😛

It's like bragging about how crutches track both your armpits.

With Vive and Knuckles you pay more but you get more.

Nooo... with Vive and Knuckles you pay more so that you can talk more lol

Vivarians get features that sound good "on paper," and so they spend most their time outside of VR trying to convince people that they are doing more in VR. Very odd.

If Revive do a good conversion 'Lone Echo' could be one of the first big titles to take advantage of Knuckles.

This is closer to being true in that: with Vive and Knuckles the only way you get more is if Oculus lets you borrow more B)

But without Oculus lending Vivarians software via Revive... all you got left is: more talking, less VR'ing

Then I refer to my previous quested you refused to answer.

What AAA Oculus game takes full advantage of Touch and makes Vive Wands look disadvantaged or Knuckles not worthwhile?

Knuckles are this:

Touch is this:

And you're all like, "but we track 5 flavors"
