Hello New Rifters Here are Some Games/APPs you MUST TRY - Post Yours

Hello and welcome. You're probably having a blast with the 7 free games you were offered as part of the promo deal but don't let that stop you from checking out some of the other stuff.

First things first though. VR LEGS, no this isn't a dodgy chat up line but something every new rifter needs to know about from the VR 101 book.

Don't jump into games that offer full locomotion (like you're possibly used to with 2D games) otherwise you might get VR sickness which can put you out of action for a few hours. In those games you need to ease yourself in over a period of days and weeks until your body becomes acclimatized to the weird sensation of moving in VR when you're seated or standing.

Play for 15 minutes, take a break then resume later until you feel comfortable to push for a longer session. If at any time you start to feel a bit sickly, remove the headset and take a break until the feeling subsides. This is your body's natural reaction to what it thinks is being poisoned believe it or not. Drink too much alcohol and you fall over and or be sick. Do too much VR and you can also fall over and be sick. LOL.

Right then, warning out the way here are my picks.

Windlands For a cheap game a lot of people here have said is a great VR experience which makes you feel like Spider-Man.
Chronos is an excellent VR adventure that's more relaxing due to not using a first person view.
Eve Valkyrie is a neat space shooter although you need more advanced VR legs for this.
Job Sim/Rick & Morty is an excellent introduction to motion control interaction.
Elite Dangerous - epic space sim. Quite a deep experience and time consuming but if you want to get lost in VR then this is the one.
Project CARS/Dirt Rally - the former is just great to experience being in the driving seat putting 2D driving games to shame. However, view distance quality is reduced. The latter is mental and with the twists, jumps and rolls is like a roller coaster ride with a time limit.
Google Earth - Incredible to land in your neighborhood (a little rough around the edges when up close) and then fly around into space like Superman.
RAW Data - intense but similar to Robo Recall.
Batman Arkham VR - very short but shows off some great visuals.
Bigscreen Beta - Free app for social or solo movie watching and more.
VR Kanojo - If you're gonna VR porn game then try this. It might not be free but it's polished and doesn't require you to jump through hoops to play. That said, there are a number of free demos and other games worth checking out.
Dead Effect 2 - Not too much fanfare regarding this game but it's pretty sweet if you're after a traditional FPS game. Watch those VR Legs though.

Here are a few favourites of mine to add to the list:

Medium - if you're at all artistic, sculpting in VR is fantastic!
SuperHot VR - It doesn't look like much in 2D, but it's a truly unique experience, and the time-bending mechanic really lets you feel like a badass!
Air Mech: Command - RTS against the computer or your friends.
Landfall - twinstick shooter with a cool bird's eye view of the battlefield. SP campaign and MP skirmishes.
Arizona Sunshine - well polished story-based zombie fps, playable on your own or co-op with a friend.
Echo Arena - the ongoing beta has been a blast! It will be free if you grab it in the first 3 months, and also included with the SP game Lone Echo.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Was it really necessary when welcoming new users to the Rift to throw a porn title into the mix? I literally had a sharp intake of breath!

Well yes actually. Why? The fact of the matter remains, lots of people who jump into VR  (new or otherwise)  look at adult experiences or have a desire to. I'll go out on a limb and suggest more do than actually don't even if its just an initial curiosity (some might not admit this).   I am going to make an another assumption that most people who can afford $399+ PC are old enough to make a decision as to whether they want to view that type of content or not. I would wager  underage gamers are likely to be playing Mobile phones, Xbox, Playstation or Nintendo Switch consoles (my 11 year old son loves his Xbox 360 btw).

The developer of  VR Kanojo (Illusion) has recently said they have seen double the number of sales for their game since the Oculus Summer Promotion started (obviously lots of new Rift owners are now taking a look). If you dive deeper into the  forum stats here you'll see the most viewed threads are the ones relating to adult content @cybereality can probably confirm this. It's a fact of life that people want to view a wide range of content in VR and adult related themes appears to be extremely popular for obvious reasons we don't need to get into here.

Now there is nothing graphic in this thread, and I posted what I thought to be a candid text suggestion with an optional link to click if the subject matter is of  interest for those who would like to delve further. All the other suggestions here can be easily sourced via the Oculus Home or Steam. I see no reason at all not to include it save offending underage users of the forum who no doubt will see far worse images and words from regular posters who fill  their posts  with graphic and potentially offensive text and meme Gif/jpeg images (like this one).

Cute pussy poking out of pants!

Now if all my suggestions in the original post were adult related then it could be seen as poor form. I would understand that fully, especially as the thread title isn't marked appropriately offering suitable forewarning to those who might be offended.

That said, I see you have not added anything useful to this discussion (like your own suggestion of VR experiences) other than to moan about one tiny facet of my post (drawing more attention to it in the process I might add). I see you have not complained about the suggestion of games which feature guns, violence, gore (Superhot,Dead Effect 2, DOOM BFG etc.) naked dead bodies either (Batman Arkham VR). Therefore, if you're particularly sensitive to specific segments of adult content then simply put Shadowmask72 on your ignore list and disregard my discussions and comments because history should tell you I'm a bit of a wildcard  free spirit.

That said, the majority of my posts  aren't always adult related by the way. I also suggest that anyone else reading this (now totally derailed thread, as I expect you or those who agree with you to respond to divert it off course further) to do the same if they find the mere suggestion of adult content offensive.

Lastly, I could have ignored your post or simply responded with a one word answer like "yes". But I believe this isn't the first time some people here feel the need to stifle or attempt to censor other peoples innocuous posts simply because they are being a touch over sensitive. It's also way more fun to act triggered!

This thread is now OFFICIALLY about Marmite.

Marmite is made from yeast extract, a by-product of beer brewing. Other similar products include the Australian Vegemite, the Swiss Cenovis and the German Vitam-R. The British version of the product is a sticky, dark brown food paste with a distinctive, powerful flavour, which is extremely salty. This distinctive taste is reflected in the British company's marketing slogan: "Love it or hate it." Such is its prominence in British popular culture that the product's name has entered British English as a metaphor for something that is an acquired taste or tends to polarise opinions.
