I'm so excited to finally have my own rift. This recent price drop brought it just into my affordability range and my partner still took some convincing that it's not just a frivolous expenditure. So having just dropped that kind of cash it's easy to feel impatient about what would otherwise be reasonable shipping time, especially considering it's international.

I got an email back from Support. This is what it read

"Due to the exceptional response to our Summer Sale, we've seen an increase in demand and are working hard to keep up.

There is no ETA at this time, but we will be sure to email you with your shipping information as soon as we ship your order!

Thank you for your continued patience!"

They are packed with orders which is understandable

Same here... Canada ordered 12:30am on 12th (so 8:30pm on the 11th in California) and still says "Order".  Not sure if it is a good sign for VR as they are selling so many they can't keep them in stock or they seriously misjudged the demand that would happen when it finally dropped the price into the mythical ballpark.  lol   Either way looking forward to getting my hands on it.. now if the dang video cards would go back down in price again!  Almost bought a 1070 for $480 a month ago, but was waiting on Vega reviews and now a video card shortage nearly doubled the prices!!! Grrrr...  Upside is the 970 will still do the job until then....

five days and the shipping status is still TBD. They should have note it somewhere on the sale info so ppl would know how to plan ahead. This is pretty bad marketing strat. and almost feels like a bad scam. I'm feeling like canceling my orders and just get it from third parties.

Yeah I contacted Oculus about the Taxes and Duties question and they told me for Canada it is exactly $549 Canadian which includes all taxes, duties, fees, etc.. and i "should" pay nothing when i receive it.  However, if I do I am supposed to let them know so they can look into it further as is supposed to be no charges at all.  I have read some online who got dinged by UPS and had to contact Oculus, but most all agreed they were just handed a package and payed nothing.  I am in NB so with 15% sales tax I am going to hold out for this deal through Oculus as that is about $82 in taxes saved!  I can spend that on great VR games!  If I was in Alberta I'd just go to Best Buy as only 5% tax so about $27 bucks... Really hate the sales tax in this province... Among other things... lol

Yeah in Quebec they are the king to f**k us very hard with taxes. I want to move or to US or Alberta in a close future.

Toronto here - ordered on the 11th as well and still with order status "Order". I don't mind the wait as I'd be stuck waiting for my WIDMOvr prescription lenses anyway (otherwise I'd be blind!). Plus saving the tax is worth the bit of the wait, even if it is painful IMO.

Oh yeah!  I lived in Gatineau, QC for a couple years and moving 5 min across the border into Ottawa was like a 20%+ bump in my paycheck even though technically nothing changed but the tax rates and fees I was paying!  Less taken all around both off the check directly in taxes and fees and in sales tax.  Though rent did go up, but less than the increase in savings. Also way better healthcare as Gatineau was horrible!!  10+ year wait lists just for a family doctor and no clinics.  Always had to go over to Ottawa anyway to get seen by a doc and pay $60 for being out of province. lol

I plan on moving to Alberta either later this year or next spring after winter.  Just waiting on an operation here so can't leave until clean bill of health as only got the one more operation to go... If not for my health i would have moved years ago.

Amazon.com is now out of stock for this Rift bundle, and says "This item will be released on August 7, 2017."
    4 weeks out.
don't know if they are guessing at that or what...

That is probably when they might get a new delivery of units.

Also, 5 days is nothing to be honest. It is really not uncommon for stores selling hardware to take longer then 5 days before anything is even shipped. Heck, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft do it every time for weeks with new console launches.

    Just have some patience.

I don't really mind waiting, it's the lack of communication that kills me. How hard is it to update the order status with a simple shipping estimate?
    I agree with you

Yeah it was pretty crazy!  Wife (well ex now) and I were really surprised at the difference it made in the pay check.  I think it worked out to between $300 and $400 extra a month without even getting a raise. lol  Forget exactly how much, but mid $300 range definitely. All due to lower income taxes and less weird fees taken off by province. Granted rent cost about that much more, but the sales tax decrease from nearly 15% down to 13% and the way better healthcare, more to see and do, and way better public transit made up for it.  In Gatineau (when I was there, maybe not now) bus schedules were more suggestion than actual reliable times and only ran once an hour usually randomly skipping one or two runs every few runs for no apparent reason.. Made getting around annoying especially in winter! My fav was when the driver would get mad and yell at the passengers and then refuse to make any more stops as hated stopping every other stop or the times they would just stop (usually middle of nowhere like a suburb) the bus and kick everyone off saying the next bus would take them... then drive off. lol  It was like nothing I ever saw anywhere else in Canada and I've live nearly every province and more cities, towns, and villages than I can even remember off hand. lol  Very unique... Montreal has great public transit though (Love subways! So convenient!) and healthcare was great last I was there. In fact whenever needed a doctor in Gatineau we were told to either go 5 min over the river to Ottawa or 2 hours to Montreal to get treated! Nothing in between!  Never been to Quebec city, but hear nice things. Probably should someday. Gatineau though was... very unique. Beautiful large condo style apt though with a wonderful price! Nice neighborhood... friendly people... Cheap electricity and insurance. Just really poor services, malls that closed at 5pm (why? that's when I can shop!) and super high taxes and fees on everything else!  Being in NB is couple steps up, but not much better. Super high taxes almost on par with Quebec. Very slightly better income taxes, slightly better healthcare (though people often get sent from here to Montreal for things like surgeries or specialists) and sales tax here is 0.025% higher.  Personally prefer On, AB, and BC.  Alberta and BC are cheapest for income tax and Alberta is cheapest for sales tax at 5%.  Though depending on city you might not be able to afford an apt as Vancouver and Calgary are insane rent wise! Other cities though are normal. Just do a lot of research online first. Would not suggest MB or SK unless you enjoy emptiness. lol  I lived there in the parries.. Started to forget what trees and hills looked like and -80 windchill in winter in Winnipeg sucked! Summer also sucked... looked like smog over the city, but was clouds of mosquitoes!!! HUGE ones!! Great zoo though... Everywhere has pluses and minuses. Just gotta find the combination that appeals to you... If you go Ontario try to get a place with electricity, heat, hot water all included. Electrical and utility rates have gone up a lot since I moved according to friends who still live there. If included it's no problem though.

I don't really mind waiting, it's the lack of communication that kills me. How hard is it to update the order status with a simple shipping estimate?

Totally agree. An estimated time would be great. Really don't want to wait the whole sale and then have it switch to order cancelled for some random reason like has happened to others. Hopefully they would honor the sale price if it did happen.  Still not as bad as the DK2 and CV1 launches where it was several months delays. A nice update now and then of "Don't worry you are in the queue and estimated stock will be available on .... " would be nice. Even if the date kept changing as long as I was updated I'd be cool with it.  Well... unless it's suddenly December and still seeing the date being postponed. lol
