I "chatted" with Gear VR regarding a problem I was having with "overheating".

They told me that it would overheat every 30 to 45 minutes and that I would have to stop using it until it cooled down.  This is totally unacceptable.  Anyone have feedback?

Morgrum, your response was about as helpful as the one from Oculus.  Does anyone have any feedback regarding the overheating issue when used with a Samsung S6?

I was told that if you plug it into the charger while using it it will keep it from over heating. I've tried it and it seems to work.

Have rebooted phone, full battery, no USB plugged, wifi enabled ... played Blade Runner VR and then 5-10 mins of They Live to Destory then kept getting the over heating message.  Weather was also cold and raining.  Seems 15 mins is the limit for Gear VR using S7 Edge.

I returned my Gear VR to Best Buy and told them the product was not ready for market.  If it is a phone issue then they should not sell it as a working product.  Maybe in a few years....

I highly recommend using one of the third party fans created for overheating Samsung phones. I went through a number of home made solutions but ended up with this http://ebay.to/2wtRJJq

Makes a big difference!

I have found three major heat contributors while using the gear vr with my note 5. Battery, wifi, and cpu[graphics]. If you keep your gear plugged in to shore power this will reduce the heat from the battery. If you also just watch local content, like movies copied to your phone, this will reduce the heat from the wifi. And I also keep my screen brightness all the way dark. I have found that a hoody can block out the light from seeping in the sides.

I talked to the rep on the phone, they recommended me only use 30 min then let it cool down.

I'm sorry but I find it hilarious that you are complaining that your phone built with the latest tech is over heating because you are stressing it to the max over long periods of time. I have had ZERO over heating issues with my S8, but I do run a ceiling fan at medium speed as it helps with the heat on the inside which can cause fogging (I wear glasses). I suspect that it helping keep the phone cool, too. I also like the fan because it creates a moving airflow which helps make outdoor experiences much more immersive. Especially now that I am playing Ultrawings.
