Can S7 play 8K yet? Will S8 support GearVR, and be able to play 8k?

Apparently it is terrible for games, good for video.

You will also see in that thread that they are planning on releasing an 8K HMD.

I hope it's a joke. Please tell me they're not that fucking greedy parasites (I'm talking about their investors specifically) as to just ruin their biggest short-term competitive advantage by...not implementing ONE fucking thing.
They even have a patent for a cheap mobile cam tracker, the lack of head/position tracking being an absolute non-sense on GearVR and all they're going to release is...the same fucking 2K Galaxy screen, with the same ridiculous tunnel FOV, the same unbearable lack of head/positional and all that for a damn remote that have been shipped with cheap chinese knock-offs for more than a year now?
Well I guess only chinese companies like Xiaomi or Baofeng are actually doing their job now, let's see.

I went to that link earlier only to find hundreds of stories.

Now the story is there, but updated.  Looks interesting.

    >> rumor: They are dropping oculus and going for daydream. Will be more evident when they announce S8.

360 videos with tilted camera angles are really not a good idea.

Minecraft has the blockiest graphics since Pong, so they use it for a test of high resolution video. Brilliant.
The items suddenly popping up in the distance are very distracting, so if anyone is listening, making this stuff fade in would be a huge improvement.

Wait until you use an 8K HMD to watch 360 concerts, sports, etc.

I feel there's a lot of confusion around the resolution of a headset and the resolution of the video you're playing.  When you're looking at a TV, the resolution of the TV and the video playing on it are usually 1:1.  You're watching 1080p video on a 1080p tv screen and it totally makes sense.  However in VR its different.  If I watch a "4k" 360 degree video on a headset that has a "4k" screen, I'm actually just looking at a small section of that video at any given time.  With the current Gear VR for example, if I watch an 8k 360 degree video, I'm not missing out on any of the quality, because it would actually take more than an 8k video in 360 degrees to give me a 1:1 view of the picture.  I don't need an 8k HMD to appreciate that.
The limitation right now isn't the resolution of the hmd (screen), its the resolution which the devices can actually play back reliably.
That's how I understand it anyways.

Does anyone have experience with equipment playing back 360 degree video at 8k? What equipment were you using and graphics card?

Also, are there any phones that support playback of 8k 360 video?

The Exynos version of the S8 can handle up to 7840x3920 at 30fps, but not at 60fps.
