Not "illegal" technically. However, in the Netherlands, a court ruled that Apple cannot provide re-furbished or remanufactured units as Warranty. So this won't fly over there. More and more companies are doing it now though. I don't really mind as long as the unit is not in a worse cosmetic condition than the one I am sending back 🙂 Had mine since April 2016 ... a few more months of warranty left 🙂 .. Honestly If it gave up the ghost it's so cheap now Id just buy a new one .. but I know many people cant do that easily.

Well that's a bit crap. If my Rift went tits up and I needed a replacement I'd want a new one. I'm pretty sure that's illegal to do here in the UK. Mind you, that's part of the reason why I got mine from John Lewis rather than Oculus because I didn't want a US company trying any dodgy shenannigans. 😮

Yes, outside of specific circumstances (like if a device arrived DOA), we have moved to providing refurbished headsets for warranty replacement. These are not broken, they have been tested to confirmed they are working, and some parts (like the facial interface) are replaced with new pieces. There may be some slight scratches on the outside, etc., but otherwise these are fully working devices. We can send you the warranty terms for replacements on the ticket. Thanks.
