It's such a shame people don't realize the gravity of this situation. Most people using an Oculus at home, yes boo hoo, you can't play your games for a day or two.

The problem isn't for home users, it's like in my situation where I own a VR arcade and we have 10 Oculus stations that are now just sitting loosing us money as we have bookings and have to turn customers away. We are very careful with updates and new drivers but this was completely unavoidable from our part or anyone else for that matter.

I completely understand that human error is unavoidable but the way Oculus has handled this is absolutely terrible
    Welcome to niche marketing.
Until there's an enterprise package released, you're a home user in the end still.

Also, please see 3.1 Content and Software License. in the TOS before bitching about losing* money on this platform.

I understand it's not my place to enforce the TOS, but it is my place to point out when a fellow community member is being a jackass.
Zassss !!! ... now is when you go to Tomy together and apologize for having insulted him ... ^^

It would seem like they could just remove the certificates until they found a permanent solution.

I don't think the forums have been this busy since the Oculus shipping fiasco. I wonder if CyberReality is lurking here and laughing.

Question for anyone in the know, I bought Lone Echo and I used that temp fix by changing the time.  I can install previous games right now with no problem but Lone Echo wont install, they took my payment for it but it wont install.  Is it cause of this error?
Why people have been saying not to mess with your system date/time.............
I did the same. they will prolly need the money on the support tho.
If you try that and use something like Prepar3D, it will tell you the date has been changed and then it will ask you to put in your codes again to register and then after registering it again it will still come back and say the date is incorrect and not run. There are also some OS related potential issues too.
On another note, I am amazed by the sheer number of people who bought their rifts today or its their birthday......if you did or it is, that's a bit of an ironic  let down. I'm amazed how different people react or overreact to things like this .  I looked on here and thought ok at least my rift itself hasn't shit the bed. This is way better. It will get fixed and in the meantime I'll do something else. Its in their best interests for them to fix this ASAP and I am sure they are hard at it right now, so all the whining, lack of patience, self-aggrandizing threatening or demanding compensation is actually not going to change how long it takes.

Then it puts your device and computer at risk. The reason they have the certificates is to improve security. Otherwise, you could be at risk of getting software that isn't from the company.

To the person earlier who was posting about making prescription lens inserts for the Oculus out of cardboard, check out this place: https://vr-lens-lab.com/
I bought their Vive lenses about a year ago and they are excellent quality and work great.

At this point if it works i think we would be ok with that lol

Relax people, they will get it fixed.  Take a walk, take a shower.  This is an inconvenience but on the scale of sh*t that goes wrong in this messed up world, this is pretty low on the chart.

Some people laugh, and the others need an explanation.

if this isn't fixed by tomorrow, back it goes to Best Buy..... i'm still within my time period to return it and get the vive or hold out for the vive pro... had all day to play thanks to this snow storm and oculus had to go and f it up on an epic scale of fail

As a fellow Rift owner who also can't play, I will say this with as much compassion as I can for your statement.

    YOUR LITTLE THREAT MEANS NOTHING.

They are working on fixing the issue.
If you live in a world where nothing ever breaks down and you refuse to accept the reality of an imperfect world, take your rift back and go get a vive.

Just make sure you have the option to take that back too, once you realize it has it's own share of issues.
It doesn't mean anything to you because you don't own Oculus, But it does mean 1 thing to oculus , that they will lose a customer and Vive will gain one, ( probably a lot more too ) Just sayin. you do know it is tax time and a shit ton of people having been buying them the past few weeks. But hey I love my Oculus and I will wait until the fix is released and ill go back to sim racing. Until then I guess its non VR porn

    Update #2:
Hey everyone - We're still working hard to resolve the cert issue. We're in the process of integrating an updated cert. Unfortunately, pushing the update out to affected users has some added complexity, as the expired cert blocks our standard software update path. We're working through the options now, and we expect to have more details to share later this evening.
just write a script link the exe p[ost it on twitter reddit etc.... get this out

I figured this would be the case.

I suggest focusing on getting the patched version into the installer being offered up on the main page.

Figure out how to get it pushed automatically after that, so at least we can do a repair install and get that certificate updated.

Please and thank you! Your effort here is appreciated! :)

Why can't we just download the oculus app and reinstall it?  Is that such a negative thing?  Instead of waiting for some genius idea to push an update through the non functioning app.

I would hope so, as a system admin for something like that to slip thur the cracks normally would cost someone a Job, I just hope policy's get put in place to not allow critical files to be knocked out by something so simple. Especially when it effectively bricks your flagship product.

I can understand that for security reason the Oculus software needs a certificate in order to authenticate updates are legitimate.....but why should the software, hardware and pre-installed apps have to authenticate in order to work?

I think it is horrible business, that they can arbitrarily shut down a product you paid for.  last I checked I didn't lease my Rift headset.
