Holy, the entitlement in this thread.

Mistakes happen, they're working on a fix, suck it up and deal with it.

The even more scary thing is the faulty update is STILL being distributed on the Oculus app.

Nothing to do with any update, it's a certificate issue. They cant just replace that willy-nilly. They probably need to compile a whole new setup with the right certs. Do you want a fast band-aid that might not work for all, or for them to work on something that will fix it for everyone?

if this isn't fixed by tomorrow, back it goes to Best Buy..... i'm still within my time period to return it and get the vive or hold out for the vive pro... had all day to play thanks to this snow storm and oculus had to go and f it up on an epic scale of fail

As a fellow Rift owner who also can't play, I will say this with as much compassion as I can for your statement.

    YOUR LITTLE THREAT MEANS NOTHING.

They are working on fixing the issue.
If you live in a world where nothing ever breaks down and you refuse to accept the reality of an imperfect world, take your rift back and go get a vive.

Just make sure you have the option to take that back too, once you realize it has it's own share of issues.
It doesn't mean anything to you because you don't own Oculus, But it does mean 1 thing to oculus , that they will lose a customer and Vive will gain one, ( probably a lot more too ) Just sayin. you do know it is tax time and a shit ton of people having been buying them the past few weeks. But hey I love my Oculus and I will wait until the fix is released and ill go back to sim racing. Until then I guess its non VR porn
You are ONE customer, you mean nothing. Like seriously. At my job we get people threatning to leave all the time and i have straight up told someone "look if you want to leave thats ok, i cannot control you doing so. We will be sad to see you leave but we will not stop you. If you want to come back, alright cool, we'll be here for you. However if you want to leave, sorry to see you go" Seriously you are one customer.

Who cares if one customer goes to vive and not to rift? Like seriously? It matter if say for example 10k customers left because of it. Thats when it somewhat matters. You are nothing, quit thinking you are something, you are replacable, get over it.
That is a reality, but bear in mind a pretty large proportion of the customer base are from a generation where self-entitlement and instant gratification is the norm and they could hurt a business collectively.

ABSOLUTELY NOT (sucking up and forgiveness). Oculus is here for me and not the other way around. This issue affected LITERALLY 100's of thousands of people! It's inexcusable!!
FREE GAME FOR ALL as mea culpa Oculus bitches!

I'm waiting patiently, but almost a day of a "blackout" is getting ridiculous. Sorry to all you new Rift owners. When everything's back up, it is an awesome piece of technology.

I am a little miffed because iRacing and Project CARS 2 just released new cars, and I want to check them out in VR, and I just finished building my new mega-gaming system with a 1080 Ti. I did get to try out VR for a week on it--AMAZING, and Battlezone was on sale a few days ago, even MORE AMAZING in VR.

Good thing it was a BEAUTIFUL DAY, and I went to the park for some great drone video of the city as everything is turning green for spring! I was expecting it to be back up by the time I returned to my office--very surprised we're all still waiting on them to get it sorted.

That this happened is such a stupendous incompetence it'll go down in the annals of gaming history for all time. It seriously draws into question Oculus' competence and stewardship of our information, their software and the danger it poses on our systems, and any information you've given them to be exploited.

Seriously - they are an arm of a massive company, all it takes is one person quitting a department for things to get missed and go into upheaval. I have seen it happen in various companies I have worked for - like I said earlier, shit happens.

Will this go down in the annals of gaming history - maybe, I kind of feel this is more of a blip. Quite a bit less of a screwup than that the 2011 Playstation network hack was - and honestly, how often do you ever find yourself thinking about that.

The smart thing to do is a quick fix that will take care of the most people (i.e. distribute the cert it sounds like they have via their site/these forums) and work on a broader solution (i.e. figuring out how best to distribute).

Workarounds are like tech support 101.

Don't let the epic panic on here scare you.  This has not happened before, it isn't a fatal error.  This is nothing but an inconvenience and way overblown.

The problem with people is that they write before reading - a bit like when people speak without thinking.

If people would just sit and read through this forum, there are some pretty interesting and funny comments on here that can defuse your anger. I was a little annoyed myself to begin with because I have been having problems with my PC and spent two days taking it apart to put it back together again. I backed up my Rift game saves, reinstalled Windows and not long got it working... to find Rift is down.

Was I mad? Nah... what's the point? Annoyed, mostly at my PC, sure. But things happen.

If you're mad at Oculus for not getting one thing right, then you must be mad at the world considering NOBODY can do everything effectively. Look at a lot of managers in both small and big businesses, for example. Most I have come across have been the most incompetent people I have ever met to the point that they literally don't know how to change a light-bulb, but they manage or own a company!? - I don't hold it against them though, we all have strengths and weaknesses. Professional or not.

I just got mine on Monday and have been working 9-10 hour days so I have not had much time with it.  So this is unfortunate, was looking forward to more Elite Dangerous and Project Cars 2, but it should be fixed soon I would think.

But I would have been very disappointing after installing and everything on Monday and I wasn't able to use it.

Agree mistakes happen, but say you buy new tires for your car and they do not hold air. Will you suck it up and get a cab or a ride from a friend and not complain? Or just use your car to play the radio while the tires air back up?

I'd take my defective tires back and trade them for ones that work. But that is not a good analogy for this - because the Rift isn't defective physically and does not require being traded for a new one to work.
