Oculus Runtime Services - Current Status

ShowbizDonkey
Retired Support
We are aware of and actively investigating an issue impacting ability to access Rift software. Our teams apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing you and appreciate your patience while we work on a resolution. We'll share more updates here as we have them. Thanks.

Update:
Hey everyone - This is an issue with our software certification that we're still actively working on. For security, we use a certificate to ensure that the software you receive actually comes from Oculus. That certificate has expired, and we're looking at a few different ways to resolve the issue. We’ll update you with the latest info as available. We recommend you wait until we provide an official fix. Thanks for your patience.

Update #2:
Hey everyone - We're still working hard to resolve the cert issue. We're in the process of integrating an updated cert. Unfortunately, pushing the update out to affected users has some added complexity, as the expired cert blocks our standard software update path. We're working through the options now, and we expect to have more details to share later this evening.

Update #3:

Hey all - thank for your patience. We now have an Oculus software update in place that fixes the issue where Rift may fail to start up. For more info and instructions, please go here: https://support.oculus.com/217157135500529/

Thank you once again for your patience.

Update #4:
Each Rift user impacted by last week's issue and eligible for our $15 Oculus Store credit (or currency equivalent) will see that hit their account within the next few hours. Not sure where to find your credit? Check out this support article: https://support.oculus.com/176820559444065/ ;

If you don't receive store credit but believe you qualified (used the Oculus desktop app on Rift between 2/1/18 and 3/8/18 -- after further consideration we extended the window by a day to account for potential new Rift owners), please contact support: https://support.oculus.com/885981024820727/

People need to stop thinking of the Rift as just a piece of hardware.

It's closer to a console than a PC peripheral.

It requires the software to run, similar to how your PC requires an OS to work.

If something happens to that OS, the unit won't work.

They're going to fix it, people just need to learn patience.

I mean I just bought my Rift not but 3-4 nights ago and have been enjoying it. Woke up today after having a day off from work and discovered it not to be working, now am i upset? A bit..but you know im not going to fret over it. But I will say this it is kinda Ironic the day its everybodies birthday or they just got their rift, something like this happens. I have very a very high patience limit and im still going.

It must be really frustrating for those who didn't even get to play it first and just have a box teasing them.  In the long run I doubt today will matter, glad you're enjoying yours... or were!

Indeed, but in due time itll be fixed I just believe people need to sit and breathe you know? Hell once its back up ill personally give everyone VR hugs to make the day okay

I don’t want to hear relax..take a shower etc..those of u who r telling us to calm down please stfu. I just paid $450 for a unit that literally does not even turn on. U SERIOUS?!!! And I hate to admit it but I do feel better that I am not the only idiot looking at their monitor with intense agony. Saying “but it’s hardware? How could software prevent me from using it”. Well within my 14 day return date and looking at the box it came in with the receipt taped on, because I was warned. Tic toc tic toc. Wow what a screw up.

Oh man, my whole computer is tied to software... What happens if the OS craps out?

It's just hardware, right? I shouldn't have to have software to make it work.

Right. Last time my computer didn’t work because of software it was my fault for watching your moms porn channel. Thanks for playing.

Is that really necessary?  People are trying to be helpful and this is a really awesome community.

The hardware works.

Its the software that's causing the issue.

Get off the forums, and go do something else, your complaining isn't helping anything, and it's likely just making you feel worse.

no you mods are here to try to keep the pitch forks to a minimum... none of it helps
only thing that helps is actual communication/eta's etc from oculus
moderator pandering just pisses us off more

This is definitely not necessary, go elsewhere.

Actually prefer if they didn't go anywhere else and just didn't bite the hands trying to help.
