The same symptoms started for me a few days ago. If I start the PC it is alright but after some Oculus inactivity - like not puting onstraight away - then only black screen, but sound is still on. I can hear the music in my Oculus flat. It all started when Win10 updated with KB4074588. Even in this official description of this patch it says "After installing this update, some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard or mouse, may stop working."

Not sure if this is the correct place for this but this is what I am experiencing -

-Sound issues (game plays but no sound).  Have to reboot to fix.  Not often but it has happened
-Play for a min to maybe 10 when the display in the head set locks up.  I continue to more forward in the game as if I am holding the joystick but can't look around in headset or use any controls.   I can see what is happening but it gets weird and nauseating.  Screen eventually just goes black.
-Headset as well as multiple sensors disconnect and then reconnect on their own once the headset gets weird.
-Randomly will get warning in oculus that a sensor is having frame rate issues.
-When I play a game such as Robo Recall or Tales of Glory my character will drift to the left (always to the left) when I am physically not moving or using any controls. Almost  every time I start a game and this drift occurs, the headset kicks out at some point and sensors disconnect/reconnect.

This has all just started within the last few days and I can't figure out what changed.  I don't recall doing any updates.  I did move the computer as the room was redone.  The sensors are in different places.  However,  I was able to play for a few days without any issues.

This is what I have tried  in the sequence I tired them:

    Disabled guardian system in oculus

    Disabled public test channel

    Disabled rift core 2.0

Disabled restart option in power settings per oculus post

    Disabled occulus tray tool

Headset still disconnected. Right sensor failed.

Eliminated any extension cable from sensor other than what was originally hooked up

Put wireless adapter back in original USB port

Roll back video driver from 390.77 to 390.65

After a few minutes in tales of glory the head set cuts out as well as multiple sensors.  They all come back automatically.  Drift issue when standing still.

Played robo call for 10 minutes with no disconnects but drift issue in game

Played karnage for at least 20 minutes and running for almost an hour.  No issues.   No drift.

Called tech support for computer and they removed in.  They fixed driver issue for pci in device manager.  They indicated there was no other issues with computer.

Plugged in power cable for usb 3 ext card.

Plugged in left sensor to usb powered card

Used ext cable for rear sensor

Played tails of glory.  Drift present again.  Within minutes head set, sensors and mic card cut out

    Reinstalled Oculus.  Issues persist.

Uninstalled Nvida options and deleted device in device manager.  Reinstalled driver vs 388.59.  Went through device a manager and disabled all power management options for USB ports/hubs and the same in control panel.

Can't play for more than a few minutes without above issues.

I forgot to mention I run OculusTrayTool and use the Disable USB Selective suspend options.  Keying from a [Possible Fix] announcement thread, I hoped the tool could save you some clicks with your Device Manager power options for a bunch of devices.

Games outside of Oculus home seem to work ok (iRacing, etc.) Games launched from library seem far more likely to stall out - Robo Recall, the Climb, VR Box, etc. Still using Nvidia 388.13 drivers.

Follow up to my earlier post. I had seen some comments about Microsoft update KB4074588. I looked in my log and saw that my computer had attempted to apply it several times over the week, but it didn't ever actually work. I downloaded and applied it manually and that seems to have fixed my issue. Still running the Nvidia 388.13 driver.

Manual update for KB4074588 can be found here:

I've been having this issue off and on since the early feb updates, lately it's gotten to the point that I have to reboot the computer any time I want to use the Rift and it's been sitting for a while.  It's driving me f'ing nuts, worked perfectly for over a year until the rash of updates in Feb and has been borked ever since.  I was running older Nvidia drivers at the time it started, so tried going to the latest a week or so ago and no improvement.  I have a bunch of logs I can attach but here's the latest fail.  Not sure what you guys updated in Feb but whatever it is broke my system.  I'm on 2.0 with guardian enabled.

tl;dr; - Black screen seemed to be Guardian related.  Terrible 'out of the box' experience, since this happens during setup.
I returned a unit - expect others will too.

Brand new Oculus - basic setup ended with a black screen at the point of 'now continue in the headset'
(ie after setting up the guardian area).
Having seen an image on the screen before that point (saying it wasnt time to put the headset on yet) but not seeing any image since (not even a backlight) I assumed the unit had somehow gone faulty and took it back to the shop!

Brand new Oculus #2.  Same experience, cant get past setup - black screen when asked to put the headset on.

Windows is the 1709, latest SP etc.  (Windows N, so doesnt have 'media packs' (IE cant play vids) for some reason!)
I presume Oculus home 2.0 beta, I don't know - I just installed what I was on the main site (my avatar has BETA next to him, so...)
So, downgraded the nVidia driver (390, then 391, then down to 388).  No change.
Disabled Windows fast-shutdown-reboot thing.  No change.
There's no 'turn off guardian' option anywhere - so ran through the full setup again, skipping the guardian bit.
Finally, a picture in the headset.
That's really not good.  Is this because it's a beta?  Is every new customer opted in to the beta, or was I an unlucky A/B test victim?
Now I am plagued with 'Guardian is not working - turn it off?' really frequently - and the 'turn it off' button never works (I have to click the ignore button).

I hope this is just a hump, guys...
But expect lots of returned systems if this is common.

I still cant see anything on my fucking display! Its been over a month since I've been able to use my rift. I installed the OLD Nvidia drivers that Oculus recommends and still nothing. Every time I try to continue setup my display goes black and by Rift is black. Then I cant even get back to my regular screen by any means and have to reboot! This is insane. I have tried every "workaround" with no luck. Even re-installed. What a piece of shit. I've been around since the DK2 days and I literally had less problems with the dk2 which was a dev kit. But my CV1 which I paid FULL PRICE FOR AT LAUNCH doesn't fucking work. To make things worse I actually use this for work as well which I haven't been able to do for over a month or longer!!!!! Fix your shit!!!!

No but I just submitted it this morning so we'll see. I have to give up on it for today again. I really need to get to work and cant keep messing around with this but I REALLY need to get this working soon for my clients. Oh and I submitted my log files on the other forum post that talks about this issue specifically. I really thought all of these weird (totally game breaking) bugs would be worked out since this is the full consumer version. Hopefully after this is fixed there wont be anything else that makes it so I cant use my product for MONTHS. Thanks for following up though!

Ok, just fooling around with the latest Nvidia 391.01 driver and just had the problem with black screen.
I restarted the OVR service and I got some visuals again but it stuttered, had my position on the floor and the OVR service kept restarting with:

    08/03 21:19:43.933 {!ERROR!} [NVDirectDisplay] HDCP link lost
    08/03 21:19:43.946 {!ERROR!} [NVDirectDisplay] NVDirectDisplay::Present NvAPI_D3D_DirectModePresent failed. NV status: -203 (NVAPI_RESOURCE_NOT_ACQUIRED)
08/03 21:19:43.946 {!ERROR!} [NVDirectDisplay] DirectModePresent failed: Display is not acquired by the application
    08/03 21:19:43.947 {!ERROR!} [Kernel:Error] OVR Error:
      Code: -1006 -- ovrError_ServiceError
      System error: -2147467259 (80004005) -- Unspecified error
      Description: [DirectDisplaySwapChain] Present failed.
      OVRTime: 30536.251873
      Time: 2018-03-08 21:19:43 [947:350:600]

After that I tried changing some Nvidia settings around for the OVRService profile but had no effect.
Then I closed the Oculus client and killed the Oculus Home2 (didn't auto close) and tried starting some VR applications directly (Dirt Rally and Virtual Desktop on Steam)
Those had the same stuttering and OVR service restarts.

Also reseated USB and HDMI of Rift and sensors when the OVR service was running and again when the service was not running. > No change in behaviour.

I have guardian disabled, usb selective suspend disabled, no hibernating and every power setting on high performance.

    Here are the logs.

Yes i have try but i don't understand why, when i clic disabled fast start and shutdown my pc, the tption still enabled :/ The result its the same, i have always black screen, only a reboot temporaly fix the issue the time to play but if i don't use my rift, then the issue come back. I don't try to downgradd the NVIDIA drivers. I hope Oculus fix it soon :/

Having the same problem with black screen, running latest updated Win10, latest NVidia drivers. I don't like to back-level systems to get kit to work as that enables the kit developers to be lazy with coding. Rift worked great last week, only black screens this week. My frustration level is reflected in other posts.

I'm experiencing this now after having installed the new patch. Oculus keeps shutting on and off, the touch controllers are not working properly and on the home screen it positions below the 'floor' of the environment.

Hello.  Unfortunately, my issues are back.  It worked fine without any issue for a few days (maybe 10-15 minutes of play time each session).  However, it is back to happening every few mins of game play.  Now the left sensor comes up with a warning every few reboots.  I unplug it and plug it back in and it is fine.  I haven’t updated any drivers/software since I first reached out.  Play for a few minutes, screen locks up in headset, all oculus devices including a USB wireless card disconnect and then reconnect within seconds.  Latest logs attached.   Anyone else having that issue where all devices disconnect and then reconnect?   Please help ):

I have been getting the black screen issue for the last month. Everything was working perfectly for months before that point. I have already tried a clean install back to the Nvidia 388.59 drivers, turned off the Beta, disabled Guardian mode, re-seated the USB & HDMI connections, changed those connections, unplugged and re-seated the HDMI connection on the headset, tried running Oculus Tray Tool with the USB Selective Suspend Disabled and Disable Power Management on Start, and went through each of my Oculus and USB connections in the Windows 10 Device Manager to turn off Power Management. None of this seems to work. Was getting some use out of it, though it would black screen/white noise after about 10 minutes or so. Now with the latest Oculus Rift update, it is almost immediate whether in the Oculus starting area or in a game.

The logs are attached. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
