Dou you have discomfort with your headset?

Hi everyone.

I’m thinking about buying headset and I have some doubt and want to ask some questions to owners.

Of course I’ll play games but also I want to watch videos in headset. I mean 2d films, TV series and maybe youtube. I want to sit in an armchair and watch videos on a big VR screen like in a cinema. Will my experience be good? Will picture in a headset be like in cinema?

And my second question is related with controls. I don’t want to use gamepad and is it comfortable to use Touch (or vive sticks)? I have a hunch that for long videos it will be tediously to keep touches in hands all two hours. Am I right or it’s not a problem?

And how about porn watching? Is it ok to play/stop by touch or it’s more conveniently use any hand tracking device like Leap Motion?

Thanks in advance

It'll work.  It won't look anything like a 1080p or better picture.  I personally find it uncomfortable to have a box strapped to my face while I sloth around in it watching movies or videos.  You don't need to hold onto the controllers to watch movies, you can set them down.  I don't know about porn, I've never used my rift to view it.

VR Porn is amazing. Apparently. So a friend told me.

Virtual Desktop and Big Screen can be used to watch films, Big Screen is free but I personally prefer to use Virtual Desktop because I like the cinema environment that it has.

The Rift is incredibly comfortable to wear for long periods, you can watch a film wearing it without a problem. Personally I use a mouse when watching films (and my friend does the same thing when watching VR Porn too).

The best VR Porn available so far is CzechVR and WankzVR. So I've heard.

Yup, I use Virtual Desktop, you can also do the same thing with Big Screen too but Big Screen puts NPCs in other seats (or real people if you make your viewing public) and it freaks me out a bit lol

Virtual Desktop has super sampling automatically set at 2.0 which helps a lot with sharpness but you'll still perceive a better resolution on a native 1080p telly if you're sitting the correct distance away from the telly, something that a great deal of people (including my good self!) fail to do.

The fact that I'm watching stuff on a bloody great big cinema screen is worth the trade off for me personally though.

If you have a choice between the Rift and the Vive I'd personally go for the Rift out of the two because the Vive has godawful SDE (Screen Door Effect) which will seriously detract from a virtual cinema experience. You also have a shitload more free games and software with the Rift and it's also $100/£100 cheaper.

You might want to wait until either the 20th of this month or the 1st May before buying one though because good money would be on another price cut around this time. Might be only a $50/£50 price cut but my money would be on a $100/£100 price cut to $299/£299.

And that will have nowt to do with the Vive price cut either, it'll be due to the WVR headsets gaining a little traction in the marketplace.

I would not want to wear my headset to watch TV.  I'd much rather go sit in my recliner, in front of my 55" 4k set.

The touch controllers simply feel natural. They're not uncomfortable in any way. They have a very natural shape, and the buttons are all very easy to reach.   I'm not fond of the vive "wands" however.  I'd much rather have the rift + touch.

Never tried VR Porn.  I guess again, I'd rather do that more comfortably than having a box strapped to my face.

Now, dont get me wrong, the headset isn't uncomfortable.  I can wear it for hours playing Orbus, or robo recall, or any other VR game. But, its just not something I'd want to do for TV.  Perhaps 3d movies, because the few trailers I've watched in 3d have been WAY better than cinema 3d.

But how can I find them when I need? Especially if they hide from the oculus tracking camera?

Do you use Virtual Desktop for this case?

But you (and I) can watch videos on huge screen in oculus which is much larger than 55" set? Where am I wrong?

You'll probably have to look out the gap by your nose.  It's not going to be difficult to find them, if you're sitting in one place watching movies and TV and you set your controllers next to you, you just feel for them.  They might be visable in the app, it depends on how the dev made their app that you use.

Yup, I use Virtual Desktop. It's one of my most used VR apps. Great for films, football streams and VR Porn.
