Lucid Dreams side effect

After using Oculus Rift for 2 weeks I can remember all my dreams and take control of them. I never remembered my dreams before and if so they were in small chunks, but after using Oculus Rift VR each dream seems like a week and I can remember every detail. Not only that I can control my dreams from crashing, flight, teleporation and other weird things that carry from one dream to the next night's dream such as abilities of moving cars etc with just my hands. I can be aware of when I am in the state of going in a dream and can still hear what's going on in the world. This prob all sounds crazy but I've just never experienced anything like this. It's like it opened a window of some sorts in my brain. Would love to see if anyone out there is also having Lucid Dreams. My only other side effect was a nosebleed on my first use.

I've also recently stopped my excessive drinking

Same here. I make it a point to stop when the holidays begin. That way I'm not drinking away Holiday Present Money

I had a few moments in the beginning when I'd be driving and suddenly have a disconnect and think that the resolution of VR had gotten waaaaay better. doesn't happen anymore unfortunately (maybe coz I don't play ED for 4 hours a day anymore)
Though you are more than slightly incoherent, I agree with you Madam,
a plum is a terrible thing to do to a nostril.

I've had dreams where, in the middle of them, I knew I was dreaming. I could sense myself in the dream and in bed, and if the dream was good I would try my best not to wake up. If the dream was bad (nightmare) I would take control to help reduce the fear.

I haven't always been able to do it, but it happens a few times a year since a very young age.

When I first started using my Rift in April of 2016, I definitely had some really crazy experiences during my sleep. I even had whacky experiences while awake. After a few months though, the brain acclimates and things return to normal.

I also get this and have to say it's better then VR and costs nothing. Problem is I can't just put myself into that dream state when I want.

"...REM sleep is an occasion for reiterating and optimizing a generative model of the embodied self with reference to waking experience. [...] In other words, REM sleep is necessary to minimize their complexity".

In a few words, when we are dreaming our brain works to explain to itself how our real world experiences works, trying to make sense out of them. When we are using VR our brain experiences awareness of its surroundings, interaction with virtual objects and movement without a complete sensory perception (some senses are excluded from the experience) as it happens normally during a dreaming state.

Reading this article about the function of dreaming, I thought that when we are using VR our brain experiences the typical waking stimuli without feeling anything at a sensory level. At this point, this VR experience must be explained in some ways by our brain and the most accurate way to do it is by letting the self to experience awareness during the dreaming state, in which we normally have our body "frozen".

This kind of dreams, lucid dreams, could be recreated by the brain to prepare itself to be comfortable with further VR experiences in real life.

LOL. Originally I thought this topic was about the VR porn software Lucid Dreams (an older app by VRGirlz) that uses real scans of naked people. 🙂

I remember two to three dreams every night, and have had lucid dreams on a regular basis since I was about nine.
Don't think I noticed anything extra wacky during sleep when I started using VR, but on the other hand my dreams already where wacky enough..  😉

I once had a lucid dream in my pajamas, which is odd. I sleep naked. What's really odd is, I was naked in my dream.

Lucid Dreaming was actually a therapy thing for me when I was younger. I used to have recurring intense nightmares, lucid dreaming allowed me to turn the tables on the monsters chasing me .. never had a nightmare since then.
