FieldOfVision would like it to be possible to put the Go into a Kiosk mode, as in to only play a single application automatically upon turning on the device.
What features would you suggest for an Oculus Go Kiosk mode?
How should it be configured?
Should it be password protected?
What are your thoughts?
Comments
- Customize the oculus home, to only show the launch button for specific apps and very basic setting like volume and brightness
- Require password to leave current app and return to oculus home
- Auto launch into an application on start up, and only allow restarting the app, but not leaving.
For me personally it doens't how it it implemented. I simply need to restrict user (especially ones that are nor familiar with the hardware) from doing things that require staff to "fix" the device after using it
- Auto-launch app when booting
- Being able to launch another apps, and then return to kiosk app
- Limit the settings the user can access to
- Exit of kiosk mode through password
- launch a single app when the user turns it on (can also be turned off by the user)
- Home button can be remapped to not go to Oculus home, but perform other feature, like Help menu
Then I will buy a large amount of Oculus Go systems (or whatever VR system delivers this essential feature)
- Possibility to load a specified application after the device is turned on
- Disable methods for the home button
I'd love to have:
- A watchdog service that checks if the specified application is still running, if not to restart it

But there should be some kind of multicast 360 video receiver that could be enabled.
To only receive streamed 360 video sessions in sync to X number of GO devices from a Oculus Rift or other PC client on a common high speed WIFI network for demo and education/teaching live sessions.

A Kiosk mode is something we alwayst thought was necessary, also for the Gear VR system. Sadly Oculus/Samsung has never seen the importance of the B2B market and easily showing VR content in a more commercial setting. So we decided to build some apps ourselves.
For our mostly b2b clients we've developed 2 application for easily showing VR content, 360 video at the moment. The first is called look and play where the viewer is placed in a branded enviroment and can view at a (also branded) icon or logo to watch the 360 video. The back button could be disabled in the past but Oculus decided to push an update where it can't be disabled. For the Gear VR a piece of duck tape is sufficient but not necessary, most people can't find the back button. For the GO no issue at all since you don't need a controller.
For larger groups we offer a solution called VR Sync which is available for GearVR and Oculus Go. This enables you to start pre-loaded content on the device itself. We've have tested in many times, for small and large events and it's even being used by Google!

In terms of a Kiosk mode it would be very helpful for us. I would want to designate which apps they could access and only those would be viewable. All apps would also need to work offline.
About the kiosk, I quote all the suggestion proposed.
I am very interested in a kiosk mode solution.
our applications ( a kind of virtual art space) run on the oculus browser ...... I hope a solution is in sight

We need the ability to:
- Manage groups of devices so that the group can have settings configured and have policies and applications pushed to them.
- The ability for teachers to supervise students and see what they're doing, where they're looking
- The ability for teachers to guide students and prompt them to look in a particular place
- The ability for a teacher to choose an app through the management system and lock the headsets in a group to that app.
- Consideration for supplying a charging system.
If those things could be developed, Oculus would have a killer "virtual excursion" system on their hands.Mick
Ping me if you want to try it out. Here's some instructions: http://portal.linxvr.com/support
- Without controller / remote
There are many apps which do not require the controller. But disabling the remote (unpairing or taking out the battery) always gives a popup at the start of the experience ("we couldn't find your controller"). Would be great if this popup is removed when there is no remote connected.
- Power options
The new "power options" features are already very helpful, now that the "standby mode" can be turned off. This gives the advantage that there is no "enter VR" screen at the start (which would require the remote). The only downside is that the power consumption is also much higher. It would be best to still have the standby mode, but without the "enter VR" screen.

We made a kiosk mode for the Oculus GO and other VR headsedt. It's an app from the app store but only works with 360 video's at the moment. Hope you find it usefull for showing your 360 video's.
Cheers!
