Feedback to Oculus: Please add VR180 support to Oculus Video (180 degree 3D "fisheye") EDIT: FIXED!

EDIT: If you have the VR180 camera from lenovo try to view the videos in the Oculus Gallery app instead of Oculus videos and the warping is gone. Now we just need the VR180 fixed for the Oculus Go Browser. So we can share these videos with eachother on youtube! Would recommend Oculus fix the Oculus video app and add this fisheye detection or an option for it like how it's working in the gallery app somehow.

Original Comment:

Stressing fisheye here as it's required. I have the new Lenovo Mirage VR camera and it's great. It shoots in VR180 (180 degree 3D fisheye required to view properly) I can view these in virtual desktop on the PC using the "fisheye" 180 3D option and it's perfect. But if you try to view them on the go or typical 3D 180 format like on the Oculus Go they are very stretched and warped. I want to be able to share these videos with friends and family using the Go easily.

With these new cameras releasing and youtube having this format now, I would highly recommend getting on this soon. I made a post the other day and as a side note you also can't view youtube "VR180" format videos from the Oculus go browser either when switching at the bottom of the browser to 180 3D.

tldr; This all has nothing to do with youtube directly really, you simply need to add fisheye support so these new cameras will work properly with the Go.

One more thing I'd like to mention, in the Oculus Video app at least there is a huge audio delay when playing the Lenovo Mirage VR camera videos. (along with the warping distortion of course)

It's a shame because the quality of the videos look MUCH better in the Go than the CV1 on my desktop.

EDIT: FIXED.. I just tried the Oculus Gallery app instead of Oculus video and everything looks great now! I'm guessing it must somehow have fisheye built in. The audio delay is much lower (still there but probably only 30ms delay but it might be the camera)

There is an option in the viewer that has a bunch of different mapping schemes. Did you check that? I don't know what all the various icons stand for, but the one you're looking for may be in there.

Yes, I tried the 3D 180 on both the internet browser for youtube VR180 and the Oculus video app. Both are messed up for videos recorded with the lenovo mirage vr camera, or VR180 videos. Regular Side by side 180 seems fine it's just VR180 that has the issue.

I found a fix though, using the Oculus Gallery app instead of Oculus video to view these. No more warping, must have fisheye detection, I have no idea.

I won't consider this fixed until you can play YouTube VR180 videos on the Go. There is no solution for this. They don't work in the browser and there is no YouTube app. This is a huge oversight. Even vrporn has working streaming VR180 for the Go. I do want to say that this is the only oversight I have found other than no file space remaining readout - they did a great job.

I haven't found a way to play this video yet. Is this the format you're talking about? I can get it to display with a stripe across the top of the screen and a sideways stripe below that is sideways. I'd like to try the perspective sound, but I can't figure out how to display this properly.

I thought that fish eye videos need post processing? Your camera should come with an app to do this. Also, to upload 360 apps to youtube you will need to embed the meta data using googles 360 meta data thingy: I've successfully edit pano IMAGES and VIDEOS with GIMP and Sony Vegas, with no issues. There is no dummies guide to this and it took me a few nights of research to figure it all out.

Follow this guide:

Here are some git repos to software that will STICH them for you.

Not necessary with these cameras and the only software they come with its the VR180 app from google on the phone. they shoot directly VR180 format which can be played back in this format once support is added to various programs which takes the steps of post processing out.

John Carmack just said VR180 is coming to the Go on twitter yesterday. It is actually working for now though in the Oculus Gallery app, it's just a bit finnicky, you have you click 2D then 3D 180 again and it detects the fisheye properly. When the video auto repeats it will be distorted though so you have to click 2D then 3D 180 again.

Since yesterday VR180 videos on Youtube are working with the Go. (Only the ones uploaded recently)

I was trying to get this YouTube video from Google to work last night and could only get it to work in low resolution. It was Published on Jan 9, 2018 though.
